And, yes, I read the NME quite a bit in the 80s...

I was more of a Melody Maker fan myself...the NME journos always seemed a bit too clever for their own good (or perhaps I was just too stupid).

I was trying to work out if the sleeves were also all by Vaughan Oliver, aka 23 Envelope/V23 - he generally did the in-house 4AD stuff - but then I got bored and stopped looking .

I think you could be right on the Vaughn Oliver connection...

To be honest, I probably read Sounds more than either of the others, seemed to cover the noisy americans I was into more extensively. Had to put up with endless 'Dan Reed Network' features though.
