yesterday i was using FM8 together with my BCR2000. FM8 updates learned midi controllers on patch change - there is an option whether you want that and on which port and channel.
it's so cool havin those blinkin-lights jump around to the position they have in the new patch. this would be most uber-awesome for ACE and also zebra!

Uh oh... does one need MIDI out then? That would be slightly problematic in some plugin standards...fas1piano wrote:yesterday i was using FM8 together with my BCR2000. FM8 updates learned midi controllers on patch change - there is an option whether you want that and on which port and channel.

erm, i'm afraid: yes. the NI flavor implementation acts just like a midi plugin, you can put a midi monitor behind it and see all the messages.
symptohm does that, too, but spits out predefined NRPN, so you need to make sure your controller is hip to those.
maybe - - partly - an alternative would be an option to have the plugin send parameter changes to the host automation system. but then the feedback depends on the host's control surface definition regarding plugin control. not half as cool as the pure midi IMO.
i didn't know that some plugin standards don't like midi out on plugins. bad design, then, because there are some cool midi vsts around
i admit that the issue is moot for novation users because automap does the same, but their hardware is not that cool for serious synth fun.

which are the plugin standards that have problems with MIDI OUT? AU?
does this

help, maybe? sorry if this is nonsense, don ' t know much the first thing about programming

From some other discussions on this topic I've seen, it's not just the AU specification but inconsistent implementation (i.e. Logic fails at using AU output o.0)fas1piano wrote:which are the plugin standards that have problems with MIDI OUT? AU?
I really hope the whole idea of MIDI hardware -> DAW gets shaken up quite a bit, right now it just feels like a complete mess with a lot of efforts solving a couple of problems but nothing systematically addressing the whole problem. The idea of hardware that's tied to a specific software solution makes sense in the market, but from a user perspective, is pure hell, IMO.

i don't doubt that, of course. i was talking about the remote zero controller without the keyboard. it's a cool idea to have digital scribble strips and feedback and automap! but for ACE or zebra, i prefer 32 LED rotary encoders to having 8 encoders, 8 pots, 8 faders and drum pads.snigelx wrote:i absolutely love my novation 37sl..

Er... you do realize what that module called "Shape" is for, right?dyiid wrote:Add a distortion module to Zebrify?

(it just not the greatest of all time, admittedly... but yes a dedicated distortion module is planned)ariston wrote:Er... you do realize what that module called "Shape" is for, right?dyiid wrote:Add a distortion module to Zebrify?

The shapers have their uses for sure but are not so good for distortion... filter drive is better, but the distortion module, whenever it surfaces, will be welcomeariston wrote:Er... you do realize what that module called "Shape" is for, right?dyiid wrote:Add a distortion module to Zebrify?

While I admit that, currently, I usually run Zebra through external distortion effects to get what I'm looking for, the Shapers by their very nature, purpose and definition distort the signal. What exactly are their "uses" beyond that?pdxindy wrote:The shapers have their uses for sure but are not so good for distortion... filter drive is better, but the distortion module, whenever it surfaces, will be welcome
I don't meant to be provocative - I'm just kind of curious as to what you meant. Maybe there is some creative usage of the shape module of which I'm not aware.

I see waveshaping as different than a more classic distortion... that is all... same thing like there are warming plug-ins, saturation... just different ways to 'distort' the signal and all somewhat overlapping

Ok, I see. Nice signature, by the way!pdxindy wrote: I see waveshaping as different than a more classic distortion... that is all... same thing like there are warming plug-ins, saturation... just different ways to 'distort' the signal and all somewhat overlapping
