Hi,

I've been watching the videos for mdrummer. I am amazed I haven't heard of this before.

The drum kit generator is very intriguing and something I've been looking for for a while.

Is it possible to constrain the drumkit generator to specific types of drums?
Could I limit its pool to three folders of my own drum samples (electronic wav's)?

Is it possible to lock down certain drums and run the generator again, perhaps with a different folder of samples?

In the videos it seems like user samples need to be loaded and saved individually one at a time, is that the case? I could see that taking months with the many thousands of samples I have. Are the drums stored as some sort of xml file so that I could automatically generate one for each sample on my own if need be?

Any info would be appreciated. This software is a bit overwhelming but if it speeds up the process of finding usable kits I am definitely interested.

Thanks,
Casey

Hi Casey,

well, right now there is no setup for the generator, it simply creates everything provided. I guess some kind of locking could be done, but the GUI would be very complicated. Though in the drumset designer you can select each particular part of the drumset, and I don't know why I didn't think about it, but there is no randomization yet! So added to to-do list. This way you would generate the drumset and then possibly generate separate pieces.

Ad2 - samples. Well, this is more complicated. For example, snare drum consists of 2 snare drums and a rimshot, each of them can have several layers, or be synthesized etc. Also the volume must be set, there may be effects... So the Components folder contains many predefined "micro-drumsets" of that type, where each is compatible with each other. The generator then simply chooses random components assuming they are compatible. With user samples it would be much harder, because there would have to be a special structure for the samples (that's the easy part) and MDrummer would have to make the associate all required samples and make them compatible, at least by volume, and that's a problem.
