I'm done with toys. I'd rather get the $400-$450 controller from a company that knows what they're doing, such as Starr Labs.

Not only that, but they were extremely nice on the phone, wanted to know what I was looking for in a controller, wanted to know what I was using now and how I felt about it, and said the Rock Controller should do the ticket. It may seem minor, but that's more than I ever got out of Inspired.

Post

Yep, you do get what you pay for. That's why there's no such phrase as "Toy support."

I don't know, but I would think that any midi synth would play the pitch indicated by the midi sender. It does have +/- one octave and +/- 2 octaves on the transpose switch but neither are selected.

Thanks,
James.

Post

I think the octave down is default given it's a bass and they want to save you the trouble of transposing on your controller.

Please tell me one more time [maybe just a link] how to get the 1049 firmware. I have the latest cp but my YRG APP is almost a month old and tells me I have the latest firmware, but it's 1045.

Thanks,
James

[quote="annode"]My take on the YRG;
- legato double trigger prob has been corrected and is in 1049 firmware.
Uncheck 'Hammer' checkbox in Control Panel. Depress 'Slide' button for legato/hammers/pull-offs. Now works like a guitar.
- Set 'String Sensitivity to 8. Tighten strings so they're not loose and floppy.
- Check 'Crosstalk Filter' box
This is about the best your gonna get it right now.

My YRG APP is version 1.0.276; is that the latest? I just keep getting a message that I have the latest update but it's 1045.

I tried to look on Inspired's site to see if there was a later version but got hijacked by the bogus spam checker again tonight/Sunday morning about 12:30 AM.

Thanks,
James

I thought 1049 wasn't out yet?

No, you can't play any midi guitar just like a real one. But you shouldn't have to torture your performance into some wooden, limited, stilted kabuki theater effort either. The unit has to be responsive and accurate enough to allow a natural flow of notes from a clean input.
Try updating your firmware with that YRG_APP... 1049 should come through.
I did it today, and it had the bug fix I found and reported on the 10th.

Post

Have latest loader app 10388 but it says I have the latest firmware at 1045. Inspired must have pulled 1049 for some reason.

Also I just get "Reported Attack Site" banner when trying to get to their app thread.

These guys are beyond hope.

And still no forum of our own at kvr. I'm surprised Shane hasn't dropped in. He's the first ztarists I ever had contact with and I met him here. He got me interested in the ztar.

Anyway in response to RBR I'm not concerned with the cheapest of the cheap or thier consmers. I've known so many parents who bought kids pretty looking cheap guitars that didn't play worth a damn and the kids never learned to play. I think the pretender market will always be there and exactly that. But I also think that if a new generation of serious guitarists are going to come up from the woodwork then they may indeed arise from the game industry.

As I drift off target.
The software industry needs to catch up with gaming aspects. Imagine if Guitar Pro6 could accept live midi in recording/comparission so it was more Rock Band like. You could get any song to play along with.

RB3 is a big jump towards players actually playing music, instead of some 8-bit timing game which is basically anti-music.

I went to 8 sensitivity and hit the filter thingy button and that seems to have eliminated a lot of the multiple triggers, so there is some progress here. And I don't even have the latest firmware.

I only hope they don't melt down before we get a couple of revs of the software in the can. I can only imagine the meeting where their salesmen report ZERO sales into the toy retail chains. They may already be handing out pink slips. They were only capitalized this Spring to the tune of 1.2m which is peanuts. They're on a very short chain, and if they keep treating their customers like enemies, they'll hang themselves with it forthwith.

1045 is the current release....

1049 is a beta for disabling hammer-ons

I don't mean to sound vindictive, but companies that treat people like Inspired has don't really deserve to survive, especially in these economic times. I was quite shocked with how poor their customer service is, as well as the harassment I received from Steve.

Well, I guess there's always karma.

In other news. I've contacted Harvey and requested that he provide some spec's for the rock controller on his blog.

Honestly the yrg is such a sad excuse for a midi instrument it isn't even funny. My DG-20 and my EZ-AG are a thousand times more responsive and have never needed a firmware update.
