..in my Gmail account, for whats possibly the first product I'd ever actually buy from a web advert in my inbox.

It was Zebra. :D

Just thought I'd share. I'm glad that advertising has finally gotten to the point where it actually finds things I might like rather than a bunch of rubbish.

You had an advert for Zebra in your Inbox?!?

Not spam! No!

I use Gmail, so there's tiny little text ads above my inbox :)

This. It uses keywords like "synth" in your mail to determine what ads to throw at you through google ads.

I know how keyword advertising works. Usually it matches things that are irrelevant is all.

I know, I was attempting to explain it to urs so he didn't think he was accidentally sending junk mail. I figured he probably doesn't use gmail, having his own domain.

Hmmm, I do have a gmail account, but I don't use it much.

I do Google AdWords though, but I havn't seen any checkbox that includes or excludes spam mails.

Hmmm...

I think the Google AdWords is what the OP is referring to here. The little word adds on the website interface. :)

For sure not spam e-mails!

FYI, you can use Google Mail for mail to/from your own domain - google for "Google Apps". It's even free for up to 50 users in a domain. It's pretty sweet.

And, to be slightly on-topic: I got the Zebra ad a couple days ago also. Hope it drives in some business!

Hmmmm, the Force is here, and it's called Zebra, an out of control softsynth that has now moved well beyond its creator, Urs, and has plans of world domination starting with gmail accounts. Be afraid,( all you other softsynth developers ) be very afraid.

I'm certain that's what he's talking about. I also use GMail and I receive the same adverts, but NO SPAM MAIL at all... just the regular advertisements. Nothing to worry about. :)

I use Gmail and just two days ago I had zebra come up above the lsitings of he Inbox. I am sure Gmail uses things that are written within letters going out and coming in to trigger associated ads.
