I have started to test the performance using Windows7 using Game Booster. I kills many of the processors and applications within the taskbar.

Has anyone had any significant results using an app like Game Booster?

Other than that I won't run tools like this for security reasons (paranoia), turning off Windows services that you're certain are not needed and that are using resources will free those resources (RAM and CPU).

I would say I didn't like them because they mean you don't have to understand what you're doing. But you can get the same effect, still without understanding what you're doing, by adjusting the services directly. With any luck, the tool will remember what you changed so you can undo it if it causes problems - whereas doing it yourself, you can forget... (I know I do -- like I said, I'm too paranoid about dubious internet-sourced software to use tools like this!)

How significant the results will be depends how much you need those resources. I didn't get much effect.

Game Booster gives you the option to toggle which services/processes gets turned off/on. You can easily toggle back to reset the services/processes back on. It is questionable the impact it may have on performance.

I use Process Lasso. It does automatic priority optimization/load balancing. Works great so far! :tu:

But there is no tool that can do real magic of course.

Hi Nielzie,

How long are you now using Process Lasso and what is the operating system, CPU and RAM amount? Were you experiencing clipping while using MU.LAB? What problem does it seem to resolve when using MU.LAB? I will be ordering more RAM.

Here are my results. Process Lasso and Game Booster at the hardware limitations (Windows7/32 bit / 1gig of RAM / 1.7GHz CPU) of my Toshiba while in playback mode using MU.Lab:

A The Process Lasso's real time processing for load balancing/monitoring degrades the performance

B Game Booster provides negligible performance improvements

I use a pretty new quad core intel system with 6 GB RAM and Windows 7 64-bit Operating System.

Process Lasso is not meant to free up memory but to avoid hangups and freezes due to processes taking too much CPU power.

It also has a "Gaming Mode" by the way (which I've never used myself).

Your system seems to be the minimum for running Windows 7 and 1 Gig of RAM is really scarse. I'd say you should have 4 Gig at least.

Buying extra RAM will surely help here on your overall system performance :)

A lot of vst(i) plugins are pretty cpu hungry these days for older cpu's and even for newer cpu's (that's why I also use Process Lasso) so this could very likely as well be the bottleneck of your system concerning working in MU.LAB....

What does your cpu meter in MU.LAB display when you get audio spikes? Do you also get cpu spikes?
