No updates to anything other than 64-bit and bugfixes before Uhbik-X

But how about stuffing 4 "small" Uhbiks with teh current design into the same space as a single Uhbik and have a switch to alternatively display any of the 4 in original size (similar to the views in a 3d-modeling app). Above that would be the master section with the main display and routing options, and below that would be a tabbed interface with LFOs, MSEGs and the ModMatrix. Something like that...

That sounds perfect to me. I love the way the Uhbiks look like big old chunky high end audio gear, but as far as pixel/information goes, the ratio is pretty low. I bet they could easily be half size and no one would mind. Maybe even offer a half size version of the stand alones for people using laptops.

I've never noticed that, and use the comb filters a lot.
Maybe you had midi learn on those comb filters, or you have some modulation targeting it.
You could post a mp3 of it happening.
Maybe even a small size project file.

That sounds useful, if we can quickly switch it on/off from the main interface. One thing i wouldn't like to lose though, is the way i can use the mouse wheel to scroll values 2 at a time (2,4,6,8, etc). I find that method really nice to use. Keeps things clean and simple, and makes it easy to see when a value has changed because of a misclick, rather than because i set it there.

One thing that i would like to bring up though... what's with the instability in the comb filters? They seem stable for around 3 or 4 bars, and then suddenly switch to a slightly different sound (timbre?). In fact, it's such a big change that i don't use the comb filters because of that. Annoying, because i really get some great sounds from them.

weird... I use the comb modules for such a wide variety of stuff... do you have some sort of accidental midi-learn? If not, post an audio example of what you mean

great great great !

uhbik x !! plus the way you describe it seems really great to me. the size of uhbik by default is pretty perfect to me. so being able to switch between them and never be bigger than the default uhbik size is great to me.

cannot wait for that.

Yeah, sure thing. I'll be back at my setup in an hour or two, so i'll have another look, and mp3 it, if it's reproducable. I don't have a midi controller plugged in, so not sure if midi learn can still make changes like that?
The thing is, when i first push play, the comb is stable, and sounds identical each time, but after some bars it starts making these switches.
Anyway, i'll look soon.

Updated manual? (for Zebra?)

Post

Sorry guys, looks like i was wrong about the comb filter. Just tested and it seems rock solid. The culprit seems to be the osc fx 'hypercomb'. Turn it's value to max and play a high note sequence. You'll hear it changes a drastic amount every few seconds. I thought Turbulence was the only osc fx with a random element, but looks like i was wrong.
Weird, because i remember bypassing the comb to make sure that was causing the problem, but hmm... maybe i was tired and just assumed the comb filter worked the same way as the hypercomb. Well anyway, sorry for the stupid post, and thanks for making me have another look. I now got those awesome comb filters to play with.

I've planned to outsource that to Howard. It would be a complete rewrite along the lines of Uhbik/ACE manuals.

I would like to have Twitter and Facebook interfaces so that I can tell the world every time I tweak a parameter. It's not modern software unless it has social networking interfaces.

:D

Can't hear that problem here (Cubase LE, OSX Snow Leopard).

Yes, a preset / mp3 would be nice... -> anybody@u-he.com

I guess we can suss it out quickly and fix it :)

I certainly wouldn't mind the option to choose smaller GUIs, but I would like the text to increase in size a little, even for the current GUI size. It's readable, but a bit bigger wouldn't hurt at all.

Today you can right click on any Uhbik and chose the size. Or did you mean for this to-be-created Uhbik-X menu?

Oh, crap - what I "wrote" wasn't quite what I "meant" to say! :hihi:

When I click on the different sizes, I'd primarily like ALL of the text to be larger on any of the existing sizes. And when the GUIs become larger, I'd prefer to see the interfaces condensed, so that we don't have quite so much (needless) space between the knobs!

Believe me, I've always known Urs to be very good about providing alternate GUI sizes!
