So the DHL van stopped in front of the door. Knowing that my precious Juno 60 would be inside, I put my shoes on and ran downstairs to help the guy. Arriving downstairs there's just a note in the letter box saying that the packet couldn't be delivered and I can pick it up on Monday. The guy was too lazy to deliver and ran off without even trying. Thus DHL has not done what they were paid for, that is to deliver a packet.

Also, there is no option to get it delivered at any other time. What about impaired people who simply can't pick things up themselves? Who's gonna pay for the taxi, and is the packet still insured on the way?

I called the hotline and all they do is pass on a complaint.

From now on

- I will never help any DHL guy carry stuff up to 3rd floor
- I will always recommend other services

Thus: Boycott DHL - they don't deliver.

Almost all things that i bought from Germany came via UPS and the service was everytime perfect.
So much times things arrived via ups so I tought that in germany only UPS is used!
Sometimes i had also calls from the "van guy" to be sure where he had to go and if i was present at home! :tu:

hi urs,
i can understand your anger.....
i've put a note on my post box because i exspected a dhl package.
the note said... please ring the bell i'm at home and i'm waiting for you...
guess what... he didn't ring and left a note... please pick up your stuff next day....
be aware of hermes... i've ordered a pair of jeans on ebay and it was shipped by hermes... it took two weeks to deliver within germany. after checking the traffic number i realized that they were driving the package two weeks through my town and didn't deliver it because of "lack of time".
thanks god, that u-he stuff is digital and not shipped...
enjoy your weekend!

The only delivery company I've found over the years to actually deliver and pick up stuff on time is UPS. Having said that, the DHL guy who works this area is really good - says hello even when he's dropping off stuff a few doors up.

But, do you live in an apartment? Sometimes (in the UK at least) if the address isn't clear, they won't attempt to deliver because the company doesn't want the hassle of deliveries disappearing because someone else has signed for it. So they stick a note through the door so you have to turn up with ID or ring up to clarify the address. Why they don't get a number to ring ahead, however, is a mystery.

That's pretty funny, he didn't even try! I remember one FedEx guy knocked super light then left I guess, because I should have heard it.

I thought DHL went out of business?

oh these deliveries with DHL! I've had trouble with them several times in exactly the same way, Urs is telling above. Problem here: i had to wait another week till the guy came again to the village. One time i wasn't fast enough the second time and he went off again, imagine! Moreover i had to pay duane for stuff from the EU, because the Canarian Islands have a special status, but this is another story. Anyway DHL is one of my beloved topics.
Problem is/was: some enterprises use DHL exclusively and there is no way to get the goodies another way from them.

arrrggg :bang: :tantrum:

I don't want to tell you what TNT made to my computer two years ago. Their name says it all.

I can't actually boycott DHL - they no longer deliver here at all (I think I remember hearing that they had cut back on or altogether done away with domestic shipping in the U.S. or some such?).

I had a bad taste in my mouth the last time DHL was involved a couple of years ago, though. Dell used to ship their systems via DHL. I ordered a PC and paid for 2-day express shipping because my work computer had died and I needed a replacement fast. DHL passed my shipment over to the U.S. Postal Service since they had just stopped servicing my area and it took TWO WEEKS to get it.

In one respect, DHL terminating service here was unfortunate, though...our driver was HOT. :hihi:

Our names for these carriers are: FedHex, OOPS, and DH-Hell. I've had problems with all of them at one point or another. Meanwhile the stogy old post office has never given me grief and has a great system for when I'm not home: they just drop it off at the nearest Post Office.

I think carriers are an attractive option for companies because they have good business rates and pick up services, so unless the businesses complain the carrier doesn't care. They also get to throw lots of fees at the recipient for cross-border transport. It's all really stacked to the benefit of the companies, not the individual residential recipient.

I keep trying to get companies to ship via the PO, but it's usually more work for them so they're more interested using in the carriers. We should really be complaining to the businesses using the carriers instead of the carriers themselves as flack-catching seems to be another service they offer the businesses... :bang:

I used to work for DHL. Sometime after I quit, my branch went out of business. Coincidence? :hihi:

my worst dhl story was when the driver threw my package on the grass by my front door then the water sprinklers when on so when i got home my korg microkorg was all wet. that was a nightmare to sort out with them and my korg was screwed. that was a couple of years ago, did not surprise me when the stopped delevrys in the us. ups and fedex have never gave me any problems. 8)
