DHL got caught up in a lot of Union garbage here in the US. Especially after they merged with Airborne. The branch I worked for was an old Airborne location that got taken over....the Union stayed intact though and carried over their contract to DHL. The quality of service tended to depend on how much seniority people had with the Union. The first, second, and third year guys tended to work really hard to build relationships with customers and take care of the packages...the rest were more concerned with lunch breaks and getting easy jobs back at the warehouse toward the end of the shifts. There was nothing you could do to get rid of the crappy employees though, as they were union protected.
I don't think UPS has a union.
Also, as far as FedEx goes, their express services are always better than then their ground shipping...I think the ground services are run through surrogate companies or something like that.
Peace

I had a horrible experience with them a long time ago. I don't even remember it but I have not used them since and won't buy from anyone who uses them as a delivery service. I'm shocked they're still in business.

I've had deliveries from DHL and UPS. I'm right out in the English countryside, and the van guys always drive round the back of the house, and knock on the door. If they don't get an answer they usually walk around and ring the front door bell. I've only ever had issues with Royal Mail leaving a note without ringing the bell first. I think it's more about individual drivers than the companies tbh.

I think the reason UPS is a more reliable delivery package system is because the UPS driver drives a UPS Truck (Owned by UPS), has a full benefit plus insurance and earns a decent salary. DHL (kicked out of US) and FEDEX are contractors, they own their trucks (they pay for the maintenance) and they get commission. If I track a package that has a delivery due date of tomorrow and I see "Out for delivery" on the tracking information, the UPS driver will deliver today (Evn though the package is due tomorrow), the FEDEX driver will hold the package on his truck and deliver on the Due date (Even if you see "On truck for delivery" on the tracking information page), he could pass by your door but wont deliver it.

holy sh*t. That's f**king abhorrent. I'll remember never to even consider recommending them.tomg wrote:...[really eff'd up story about DHL]
So far it's still not settled.... In the end I may have to pay $237 to keep it off my credit report. Un-f**king believable. f**kers!!
Just wow though. That's like seriously something I would do to a customer if I really wanted my company to go out of business. What a bunch of lunatics. What are they handing out in the break room at DHLs, free crackpipes and cocaine coated popsicles?? damn.
The last time I tried to get UPS to call my cell to "meet" the driver where-ever the hell they needed to, at least so I could get my package - they effectively told me to go soak my head.elxicano wrote:This, I did not know could be done!todd sweetland wrote:you could call em and also try to meet up with the driver on road, to get the package, ive met up with ups, fedex ground to get my packages sometimes( im never at home ) and have also had customers meet up with me as well (im a fedex driver ) . you could give em your cellphone # too and try to meet up with em, thats what id try to do, keep calling and be persistant , i hope you get your package.![]()

Someone needs to start a new courier service here in the U.S. You could do a totally half-assed job and it would probably be light-years ahead of the sad nightmare that are most of these shipping companies. Yikes.

every mail service is like that, over here, Royal Mail do the same everyday...lazy c**ts who want an east life...you're lucky it didnt end up on ebay after being 'lost in the post'Urs wrote:So the DHL van stopped in front of the door. Knowing that my precious Juno 60 would be inside, I put my shoes on and ran downstairs to help the guy. Arriving downstairs there's just a note in the letter box saying that the packet couldn't be delivered and I can pick it up on Monday. The guy was too lazy to deliver and ran off without even trying. Thus DHL has not done what they were paid for, that is to deliver a packet.
Also, there is no option to get it delivered at any other time. What about impaired people who simply can't pick things up themselves? Who's gonna pay for the taxi, and is the packet still insured on the way?
I called the hotline and all they do is pass on a complaint.
From now on
- I will never help any DHL guy carry stuff up to 3rd floor
- I will always recommend other services
Thus: Boycott DHL - they don't deliver.

I've had exactly the same thing happen to me too - they didn't knock or even wait, just stuck the card through and drove off before I'd even got to the door. They really are a bunch of lazy twats

the problems is, these guys are really bad at their job because they're not only lazy, they're also dumb as f**k - there's only so much time you can invest in waiting (=doorbell-ringing) per stop. If you wait too long, then you won't manage to finish your tour. But if you bring back too many packages, then your tour the next day is too big, so you got even less time - but wait: DHL doesn't deliver twice, so they get rid of the delivery either way.
Actually you'd need to rationalize. One smart move for example (at the house I live in) might be: there's this boutique on the ground floor of this house, and it is always open. And if it's not pay-by-delivery, they'll always take it - but the people living in the house are rarely at home. So on a busy day, why wasting time at ringing the door-bell at all? I'd rather go directly to the boutique, pretend people aren't at home and quickly rush on - delivery made, time saved - not a perfect solution, but it works.
But to make decisions like this, you need to have at least some intelligence.
In my case, a) some of them (=DHL) don't realize there is this boutique, because its entrance is at the front of the house, while the flats have their entrance at the backside - shop has huge windows on all sides of the house - doesn't matter.
Or, if they manage to find it after all, they don't leave a notification in the mailbox, because the mailboxes are inside (behind the back-door) so they'd need to ring a bell again, because they're not smart enough to develop the idea that the boutique might have an back-entrance as well (leading straight to the mailboxes).
So I'm then mailing back and forth, eunquiring what happened to the transistor-organ I ordered at Ebay, only to finally find out, that the huge package has been a nuisance to the people in the boutique for a whole week already.

I blame your wife!tomg wrote:Anyone remember my Paypal/EBay/DHL China horror story?
In nut shell. I bought a Wacom monitor from China that was shipped from Hong Kong that only worked for a few hours then the digitizer stopped until I let it cool down. It cost $65 US to get it here.
I returned it to the shipper in Hong Kong (another $160). Paypal required that I return it to the seller in China. So I had it moved. ($70). Where it sat on the shelf for 3 months because the seller wouldn't pay customs and pick it up.
Through all of this DHL did pretty good. I called Paypal almost once a week until I finally got someone that said "This is ridiculous. I'm refunding your money" which I got 2 weeks before I got the email from paypal saying my claim had been denied.![]()
![]()
DHL had called me several times to tell me customs was going to confiscate my package if it wasn't picked up. To which I replied that it didn't belong to me and if the owner wasn't going to pick it up it wasn't my problem and NO!!! I wouldn't pay ten cents to have it shipped back.
About 4 weeks ago it shows up on my front door. My wife signs for it and two weeks ago I get a DHL invoice for $237.!!!!![]()
I know DHL doesn't ship anything without getting paid up front. However suddenly I have an account and can be billed? WTF is that?
The only thing I can figure is (and this is complete conjecture) that they couldn't let it be confiscated. Because of company policy they had to return it to me. I wasn't going to pay so they just opened a new account in my name and billed me for it.
The box was beat all to hell (it looked oil soaked). The monitor had a broken support and the digitizer had several corroded spots on it that can't be cleaned because it's sandwiched between the screen and back plate.
So far it's still not settled.... In the end I may have to pay $237 to keep it off my credit report. Un-f**king believable. f**kers!!

over here, they have a neat little trick...they dont even take the parcel out, they just put a note thru the door saying they couldnt deliver cos no-one was in, then you have to go and collectjens wrote:Kriminal wrote: every mail service is like that, over here, Royal Mail do the same everyday...lazy c**ts who want an east life...you're lucky it didnt end up on ebay after being 'lost in the post'
