Did you try it with other X/Y Software controllers? I mean like in Camel Space for example?
Does it work there or is it a general midi mapping issue?

probably you have difficulty sending only one controller for midi learn purposes. in order to learn the x axis, try to switch off the y axis and pressure (z) on the hardware or set them to a midi controller which you then filter out in your host.

Mapping 'multiple' controllers should not be a problem with Novation's Automap software. You can map each axis seperately with no problem. I use a Remote 37SL and I can testify that it takes some 'practice' to use the X-Y Novation pad as a MIDI controller. On my SL, this does not function as you would first think (smoothly). It it has very coarse tracking and reaction to pressure is sometimes not the best. That said, the Novation X-Y pad controllers are configurable as far as touch mode is concerned. I believe they even made this better with the MKII (I believe a configurable smooth-scaling feature was added).
Look at the TouchPad controller EDIT menu on the hardware OS for each control (x and y) and check how they are setup. You may wish to try each of the various "Touch Modes" for the controllers until you find a setting that produces pad behaviour you can more easily work with for the given task.

Are you controlling the plug-in through Automap or just from sending CC messages from either Automap's MIDI client or the controller itself?
If using Automap, it may be helpful to understand the dynamic port routing feature as the XY pad makes use of this: if nothing is assigned to the XY pad in the Automap client that's currently in focus in Automap then the touchpad sends out whatever is assigned when editing the touchpad on the SL; if something is assigned to the XY pad in the Automap client, the XY pad follows that assignment.

When i use automap, i have trouble assigning the x axis. The y axis seems to respond, though not accurately. When not using automap, it goes alot better. Trying to find where the touchpad controller edit window is...
