Korg Legacy Analog Collection

Hi Everyone,
I've been messing around with this. Since Korg removed their SyncroSoft protection (converted to challenge/response instead), I've been able to install the legacy collection on a Receptor 2. You can do this by putting the installer.exe in the "Drop Installers Here" folder. Unfortunately, some of the plugs (Mono/Poly) will hang receptor when you try to instantiate them on a channel, or launch the editor.
Others, like MS20 and Polysix however, will launch - albeit without an editor. This sounds like it wouldn't be useful, but I have been able to edit patches using Receptor's Parameter Editor (eg. after trying to launch the plugs editor, choose the tab on the menu bar which looks like 3 sliders). This brings up a set of sliders assigned to all of the major editable parameters. Some parameters do not seem to be editable, but most are.
The Polysix has a very nice analog richness to it, and it is nice to know that you can still use it to edit and play patches. If you have any better experiences with the Korg Legacy collection on Receptor, I'd be keen to hear about it.
Regards,
Kevin L
Edit:
MS20 Also comes up with the parameter editor, but even fewer parameters are accessible.
MonoPoly hangs receptor at instantiation (freezes selection dialog).

looneytunes,
Good info, thanks.
Do you happen to know if the installers you get from Muse for supported plugins are .exe files? I guess I never bothered to look (or can't remember), and assumed .exe's wouldn't work when dropped into the "Drop Installers Here" folder. (And, from your report here, maybe they don't!) Just curious. Maybe I've just been way too cautious - or pessimistic - to try.

Hey Batgab,
Yeah - sometimes .exe's just run when dropped into the 'Install Plugins' folder. This also worked for me with Luxonix Ravity installer this way. I think one of the Muse support people suggested this to me a few years ago. In any case, it is certainly something to add to the bag of tricks for installing plugs on Receptor - and it sure beats trying to run installers from wine (or some other crazy unsupported method).

Oh - so an obvious alternative occurred to me (for editing patches on Polysix/MS20, where the plugin works - but the editor doesn't launch):
The alternative is to simply edit sounds on another machine! Both Korg plugs read/write patches in .fxp format, so you can simply import the patches (drop folders of .fxps in the "Install Plugins" folder) into Receptor.
This is not exactly 'immediate feedback' (like editing from Receptor), but it is a friendlier environment for programming the plugs, rather than using the parameter editor.

Some final observations:
Legacy Cell (kind-of like a wrapper for PolySix and MS20, that adds more channel and global effects) will also play on Receptor. The interface kindof comes up (at least the faders do). The problem with it is that it does not predictably change patches on the vst sub-components of the patch. This is a bit of a deal-breaker for live usage - too bad because it has nice effects.

Hi again,
Just wanted to add a followup to this post: The MDE-X effects that come with the Legacy collection also installs as a VST fx plugin. Same drill as before, the GUI editor doesn't launch, but most if not all parameters are editable from the parameter editor page.
These are a single effect per instantiation (ie. not a multi-effect), but they sound quite nice.

I just got a Receptor VIP this week and was able to drop the Polysix into a subfolder (under unsupported) and it works. As previously reported, there is no GUI, but I can work around that easily enough.
Has anybody gotten the Wavestation or M1 to work?
