Problem using Receptor - repeated notes when pressing keys

I would be grateful for any advice on a problem that I am experiencing.

I've been using my Receptor today, initially within Sonar using Uniwire. I began having problems playing patches, with any notes or chords being repeated until I let go of the keys, accompanied by a crackling sound. I thought my sound card driver settings needed tweaking so I played around with the settings and eventually I was able to play notes and chords in the normal way. However, the problem then returned when I changed patches within a plugin. After playing around with the settings I eventually gave up, and decided to use Receptor "standalone", away from Sonar.

Unfortunately, the note repeating and crackling is still there. I have rebooted Receptor several times, changed my Midi keyboard controller, selected various plugins, all to no avail.

My regular Midi controller is connected to Receptor using the Midi in input, and the Receptor Midi Thru output is connected to my PC (so that I can use the controller to play non Receptorized plugins on my PC). I removed the Midi Thru cable, in case some kind of loop had occurred, but again no luck.

1. Have I accidently changed some settings on my Receptor that is causing this problem to occur ? If so, what do I need to do to correct it ?

2. Is it possible that my Receptor hard drive has become corrupted for some reason, and will therefore need to be repaired or replaced ?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks

Peter

Peter, a couple things (well, just semi-rhetorical questions, I guess) came to mind:

A. When you say you're now using the Receptor "away from Sonar", does that simply mean that you are not using Uniwire anymore - but are still monitoring the Receptor audio outputs via Sonar? If so, do you hear the anomaly using headphones plugged into the Receptor's front panel headphone jack?

B. You say that notes/chords repeat, but could they possibly "just" be cutting in and out? Did you check the latency setting in the Uniwire plugin when you were using it?

C. Have you been using Uniwire successfully up 'til now? You might want to take a close look at (or review) the "UniWire—Receptor Setup Details" section of the Uniwire supplement to the Receptor manual.

D. You removed your MIDI input to your PC, but have you also removed the Uniwire plugin from the Sonar track/channel you had it in? If not, and you are receiving Receptor audio in that track/channel, the Uniwire plug may be causing problems. Maybe.

I admit I'm kind of sleepy and not thinking straight, so I may not have been much help here, but hopefully these questions will give you some ideas. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply Batgab

Your suggestions to overcome this problem all centre around Uniwire; however, I am not actually using this. I was originally using Uniwire to operate Receptor within Sonar as a VST, but then decided to use Receptor completely standalone, so it is no longer connected to my PC. As a result, I don't think the problem is due to any Uniwire issues - the device is connected directly to my midi controller and my PC (and Sonar) have been shut down.

As I have said, I have connected a different midi controller to Receptor but the problem is still there. What basically happens is this - if I press a key with, say, a piano patch loaded, I will hear the note repeated for as long as the note is held down, instead of just one note. If I play a chord using, say a pad or string type patch, I will get the repeated notes as well as a crackling sound.

I have plugged headphones into the front input in case the problem is due to the audio outputs - but the repeating is still there.

I do fear that this is to do with a corrupted hard drive which is affecting the samples on it. My Receptor was recently upgraded from v1 to v2 Pro so the drive is under warranty, however, this sort of thing shouldn't happen - should it ?

Any suggestions as to what has happened would be appreciated !

Sounds like you should contact Muse - especially if your Receptor is still under warranty. It could be a loose or defective audio card. Muse will likely be in a better position to offer advice - though there are some very helpful folks on this forum as well - good trouble shooting advice from Batgab, but it sounds like you've already covered that ground. Good luck -
