Hi

can someone plz explain what thenew functions in the oscillators are good for?
I mean the three pics under "dual" in that case:

- Or where I could have found that written in some manual?

Thanks a lot, Uli

Okay, I'm probably going to get this all wrong but here it goes:

The first one turns on PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), think of morphing between a square and a pule tone. Turn it on and turn the Phase/PW in the Phase/Sync panel of the oscillator to modulate this.

The second one turns on sync. Turn the sync knob (two down from PW) to detune the oscillator upto three octaves from its base frequency.

The third one means that each time an oscillator is triggered, it will always start from the same point. This can be useful if you are worried about too much phase cancellation within the synth sound.

I hope this helped a little.

hi haunted, absolutely, thanks a lot, ah ok so that's switches for the functions that were already existent, no substantially new stuff.

see you soon !

That's correct!

these functions were buried on tabs in the old design, now they are always there.

Specifically what the phase effect does is add an inverted copy of the waveform to it's-self, which you can then change the phase of to create phase cancellation. In the case of the default sawtooth setting, this produces a square wave, which will become a thin pulse (and eventually silence) when you sweep the phase.

Honestly I had no idea you could add two sawtooths together and get a square like that, it's amazing what you learn by playing around with Zebra.

That's okay, I'm glad it helped clear things up.

And thanks for the thorough explanation Sendy, harmonics are fascinating things.

I must admit I wondered about this, but was too shy to ask.

I just had an idea, any chance of tool tip text in Zebra2 to explain the basics of each function simply?

Maybe something you could turn off or on from the menu?
