I really don't see the problem. And what is so hard about normalizing manually ?
Not that you'd ever need to but if you wanted to. It's just you who tries to blame your own ineptitude on the developers,must be their fault 'cause your infallible,right ? Played with all fancy orchestras and what nots.
And if the experienced musician isn't aware of that louder sounds better maybe he isn't so experienced after all,at least not in things that matter on this subject.
