I use Receptor with a 1965 model Leslie 142 cabinet.

Having ditched the B4(II) in favor of VB3, it was time to see if I could match the Receptor signal level to the 122 amplifier in the 142 cabinet.

To really drive the 122 amp like an old B3 amp will, the "+4db" signal of Receptor just ain't enough. The VB3 has a substantial however realistic B3 type bas-boost, and I want a good overhead level to avoid digital clipping, about 1 volt peak2peak was the maximum the Receptor could output.

Solution: A separate tube preamp, or modify the 122 amp.

Since I don't use the original speed control of the Lesie (I made my own) - this leaves me with an unused 12Au7 tube. So I decided to wire up this tube as a second differential stage to boost the signal before the 6550 stage.

I made the second 12AU7 stage 100% equal the first 12au7 stage.

The signal was boosted by a factor of 10 (20 dB).
