My track is now downloadable, but it's a 55Mb uncompressed WAV. Because Soundcloud parses it to 128kbps I always upload the best quality. You can read about how I actually made the track and why it's titled so at ...

I feel the need to record my techniques with the aim of adding new ones. i'd love to read how you guys put your tracks together so if you record it in a BLOG or something, let us know.

Interesting. There've been calls for just this kind of thing before. I might do one also in the future, though not sure the value as I work so unstructured.objectman wrote:http://www.deadeddy.com/tutorials/ambient-piece/

128kbs CBR that is, I guess?V'ger wrote: About SoundCloud messing up I learned that the hard way last comp. It will convert all to 128kbs mp3 for the player, and downsampling from a higher rate mp3 is obviously not good at all. I'm not entirely sure SC will leave it alone even if it already is 128kbs, but I guess so. You can still change the track if you want, the deadline is what counts for final submission, not if you already uploaded.
I re-uploaded the track, because I've found and fixed some unpleasant issues (wrong note lengths). For archive.org, you'll download the high bitrate version anyway, won't you? So I guess I'm fine with the preview version having some minor compression artifacts.

Yes 128kbs CBR.
And right, for Archive.org all will be uploaded as they are originally, even if they are VBR.
Archive.org will also take pure WAV files of any size, but still to find out if WAVs will show up in the player.

Tell me about it. You can hardly find any decent "whole song" tutorials on the entire net and yet it's flooded with musos.V'ger wrote:There've been calls for just this kind of thing before.

I only transcribed the process so I'd remember for next OSC, but was thinking of also incorporating this generative idea from Nick's BLOG along with modeling an ambient tune on Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street." (Like I was supposed to). I want to replace his guitar solo with a slow drone and his sax with a length of glitch.

He that's some idea to randomize a slow ballad and change solos for glitches..

Nice, more tunes uploaded. Will check 'em out shortly! I'm not really happy with my track, but... never mind.
Thanks for the welcome MajorBloodnock and V'ger.
Anybody know the whereabouts of any other decent regular music production competitions?
There's a user on youtube called 'boyinaband' who has a lot of whole song tutorials which are excellent in my opinion. They've helped me improve my workflow massively, although I have realised I prefer my older methods of starting from scratch, (the intro) and just building upon the track progressively rather than creating a 'hook' first then stripping down elements.objectman wrote:You can hardly find any decent "whole song" tutorials on the entire net and yet it's flooded with musos.

Yes, we released TAL Noizemaker 2.0 some hours ago..
Well, Patrick and me didn't know that you started a "one-synth challenge" with the TAL Noizemaker, shame on you that you never informed us!
Well, anyway, i will spread this ofcourse and i will think about throwing a price into this compo... Let's see if i find something interesting for you!
by the way, we start collecting presets for this synth, if you want to see your presets in one of the upcoming updates, please, contact me...
Great music, by the way...
