Seriously, when I think how much work must have gone into these synths, it boggles the mind.

How could one dude design, code, test, release a whole bunch of virtual instruments, all of which are considered pretty darned frikkin good sonically and aesthetically. How could one dude know UI design, real-time processing, and DSP to such an extent? Could Einstein have brought us Zebra2 and ACE? I think not. I'm pretty sure Urs is holding hostage an army of alien coders from Alpha Centauri in his basement. You heard it here first!

You left out an underrated ability to do sound design.

Urs is one of the (if not the) best and most respected developers and I'm sure big companies have knocked on his door to join them (and he obviously refused).Yatmandu wrote:How could one dude design, code, test, release a whole bunch of virtual instruments, all of which are considered pretty darned frikkin good sonically and aesthetically. But he's not the only talented one-man-synth-coder around of course (Lennard Addink, Markus Feil, Jon Ayres, etc, etc..) Respect should go out to all of these guys

And we're gald he did!!!
In an all too rare choice in money hungry times, Urs has remained true to his sense of business ethics by staying away from the seemingly ubiquitous urge to think that exponential business growth is the only way to be a successful company. Clearly, he has demonstrated that it's not neccessarily the case. There are alternative ways to conduct business which incorporate making money while still loving what you do and remaining closely connected to what it is you do best. Given the scope of what Urs has brought us in the last 2 years alone, it's understandable that he has passed off some duties, such as getting Howard to do a lot of the sound designing and the Zebra 2 manual re-write, and it would be crazy for him to try and do everything, wouldn't it? I think most of us prefer that he tackles what he does best, and which I am sure gives him the most satisfaction and fun too, while continuing to give us what we like about his products: fantastic sounding and performing products that continue to grow.
And we're gald he did!!!

Uhm... hehehe, even though I'm a one man show, I'm sure I do have exponential business growth (about 20-30% each year). And even though Grrrl and me live on a rather moderate budget, I earn way more than any company would be willing to pay me
(and of course, I prefer to report to my customer base rather than to people who think they know what's good for the company)

Yes, Urs, your growth may be exponential, but it's a consequence of the quality of your products and that people like the way you conduct business. Hey, what's that high pitched sound? It's not a Zebra..., oh it's just Urs in his Lamborghini.

Yikes, I started this thread after consuming large quantities of beer myself while playing with Zebra2. I'm glad I did. Of course there are other one or two-man show devs out there that should get the same kind of praise. It just happens that Zebra2 is my favorite VST, with ACE not too far behind. [Pssst, and Alchemy too, ZenPunk! hee hee, snuck one in there for the Camelsmcnoone wrote:You left out an underrated ability to do sound design.

It was either aliens or millions of monkeys coding at the same time ... I went with the aliens, but I hear you - no man is an island, I'm sure you have peeps that help you do what you do best.Urs wrote:Not as much recently, I'm off wheat & carbsmcnoone wrote:(rumor of course)![]()

As for wheat and carbs, my wife is on my case to stop the Friday night jam/beerfest, and she says playing hockey two-three nights a week isn't helping much either (since more beer and empty carbs happen after the games
