y'know, the more I think about it, the more I think I may actually be wrong about the connection... But, hey, have a go anyway. Watch me fail people, watch me fail!

i'll push it along so as not to prolong the agony (mine? yours? is there a difference?)

clue: movies

Tony Scott
Brian De Palma
Mary Harron
Dan Aykroyd

Yo La Tengo are the odd ones out, because they haven't appeared in films, only written soundtracks?

Bauhaus - The Hunger
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Body Double
Digital Underground - Nothing But Trouble

Mary Harron is a red herring? Or a red heron?

Right answer but wrong reason. In a way. Sort of.

;)

Post

Did Yo La Tengo appear in a film, but:

a) Not play any music
b) Play live (and the others didn't)
c) Not play live (and the others did)
d) All dress up as Mary Harron/herons/herrings
e) None of the above

?

(I thought I'd try the brute force approach...)

Um... e) so does that mean you gave a correct answer..?

:)

Near enough.

They all appeared in films but only Yo La Tengo 'played' another band, all the others played themselves (or just a nameless appearance).

YLT played the Velvet Underground in a party scene in 'I Shot Andy Warhol' (directed by Mary Harron) though I've now seen an article which says they weren't meant to be the VU...

I guess they were still portraying a band other than themselves so maybe I got away with it...

Ho hum.

That was quick!

All correct - all are public holidays in different parts of the world.

Over to you, Tex...

JJ72 - 8
Dallas Crane - 53
Goo - 22
The Boomtown Rats - ?

What number does the question mark represent, and why?

Post

As a clue, here's another example:

Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire - 79

Post

10

All are the atomic numbers for elements mentioned in a track from each album.

JJ72 - JJ72 - "Oxygen" - 8
Dallas Crane - Dallas Crane - "Iodine" - 53
Sonic Youth - Goo - "Titanium Exposé" - 22
Bonnie Tyler - Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire - "Band of Gold" - 72

and

The Boomtown rats - The Boomtown Rats - "Neon Heart" - 10

 That was evil...

Well done. I felt sure I would need to give more clues before anyone got that.
