Ivory 2 / Komplete 7

I have recently received an email telling me that Ivory 2 is now shipping. At around £60 for an upgrade this is good value; however, I am still waiting for Muse to confirm that an installer for this upgrade is available for Receptor 2.
I also note that Muse can now provide a Receptor 2 with Komplete 7 inside. This, again, is another upgrade that I'd like to buy - except there is no installer for it yet. I note from the various posts on the forum that Muse haven't even sorted out an installer for Komplete 6 yet - which is now effectively obsolete !
I will quote from Muse's website - "Receptor is the hardware plugin player used by thousands of musicians worldwide". What they fail to mention is that they cannot keep up with all the new versions of the plugins that it can already run, which is a huge source of frustration to myself and its many other users.
What is the point of advertising this fancy device when it is always behind the times ? Surely Muse know when new versions of (for example) NI or Synthogy plugins are being released, so why can't they produce installers for the upgrades to tie in with the releases ?
I would like someone from Muse to come on this forum and explain, to all of us, why it is taking so long to produce installers. I realise Direct Install 2 is being beta tested - will this allow Ivory 2 and Komplete 7 to be installed ?
Muse - looking forward to hearing from you...............

Welcome to my (our) world!
Yes it is a problem. It's a shame, in all other respects, for such a fine piece of equipment.
I think their business model needs tweaking. Making the OS more flexible should attract more business. They won't be able to keep up with every single new plugs, and they don't. At this point I'd much rather pay like 2-3% per plugs, and having all of them working! I dunno, perhaps some kind of online installer.
I'm behind with most of my pluggins. OP-X, Ivory, Kontakt, VB3, just to name a few. Sometime you can install them yourself and they will work, sometime the OS just doesn't support it. Something to do with Directx versions I think.
It would be nice to have some kind of "patcher" for those directx files.
I still love this unit to death, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I just hope Muse is secretly preparing a new strategy to get these problems out of the way.

I agree - except I wish they wouldn't keep it "secret"!Meo wrote:... I just hope Muse is secretly preparing a new strategy to get these problems out of the way.

Out of curiosity,
Is there anything out there that could easly replace a receptor? Is a rack pc on par? One would also need an external sound card I suppose? What about the GUI, I really like Muse's, save plugs preset, snapshot banks, etc...Kore perhaps? I read that Kore has its own issues.
I was using my dual core laptop before, with EMU 1616m sound card, but it wasn't even close in terms of performance and ease of use. So anyone suggesting it's that simple is full of it...
Also the output converters sounds pretty good with recepetor. Anything better out there (that's not the price of a receptor all by itself)?
I'd really love to have some input on this.
Regards,

That's the main reason why I'm not too optimistic about this. Pluggins are growing exponentially, it will only get worse.batgab wrote:I agree - except I wish they wouldn't keep it "secret"!Meo wrote:... I just hope Muse is secretly preparing a new strategy to get these problems out of the way.
I'm sure they're not doing this to piss off their user base, they're overwhelmed! Perhaps dedicated installers are too much work for the actual returns.
Anyway, like I said, this product is amazing, but the business model needs serious tweaking. I rather pay a small fee to muse to get these installers rolling out the door. That would certainly give them room to assign more ressources to get them out in a timely fashion.
Why don't they run a survey with their customers, could it be just that simple? See who's willing to pay. Ask for ideas, I don't know, just do something guys! At this point I have the feeling it's not getting addressed at all, and this is not a good sign. There is a solution out there, not doubt.
Just my 2 cents.

We are currently working on getting Ivory 2.0 ready for an official Receptor release. Komplete 7 works on the Receptor but we are currently working on a new Direct Install that will run better than the current version. This new DI is currently in beta testing. Basically when we get a new plugin we have to make sure of 2 things... 1 that it will install and 2 that it will run efficiently on the Receptor.
With most of these plugins that are released, we try our best to get them ready for the user as close to the release of the software as possible. But we have to be thorough to make sure we are releasing quality "Receptorized" plugins. We have made some business changes to help with pushing these plugins out the door. With our new paid support program this frees up time for the support/QA team to do dedicated testing. Being a support guy here I have seen less calls that have gave me and the rest of the team time to really plug away at some of the issues that need to be handled.
In the end we are a company of musicians making products for musicians. We want all of our customers to be happy and truly reap the benefits that the Receptor has over our competitors. We know that waiting on plugins can be a frustrating issue. At the same time we appreciate everyone's patience when it comes to releases. The company is always trying to better itself and we are going to continue to do our best to bring you the latest plugins as fast and efficiently as possible.
Thanks,
Gary

Gary, thanks for the info.
I would like to see the plugin developers step up to the plate as well, at least the major ones. They should develop with Receptor in mind, which would cause your team less trouble. After all, Receptor is not exactly a fringe platform - a lot of the big touring bands use Receptor as the main tool for live VST use. And these bands should tell the developers how important Receptor support is to them.

Thanks for your reply Gary and I look forward to hearing about the new installers.
I agree with Greg's post - the developers need to work more closely with you to ensure timely release of installers and also to ensure that the installers work with problems.
It is in their interest to do this as many Receptor owners will continue to buy upgrades but only if they will work on the device. In my own case, the sooner Ivory 2 and Komplete 7 installers are available, the sooner I will upgrade to the new versions !
Do you have regular dialogue with Synthogy, NI, Spectrasonics etc to see what they are working on ? Is it feasible for you to become more of a "partner" than an "enabler" of their products ?

I love this unit to death and I'm sure many others do. So I'm glad Muse as looked into ways of increasing the turn rate. There's nothing wrong with getting creative, if need be.gary@museresearch wrote:In the end we are a company of musicians making products for musicians. You're absolutely right! Good point.gregh1 wrote:They should develop with Receptor in mind, which would cause your team less trouble.
I won't forget to include this request when communicating with them. There's nothing like leaving a friendly reminder. Perhaps if they're reminded enough.

If you have a Receptor 2, Komplete 7 can be installed. Create a support ticket from plugorama.com and we will provide instructions.

I sincerly hope that I won't be stuck with it for months before I can use it on my receptor.

Does that mean that Komplete 6 can be reliably installed? Is Direct Install 2 still in Beta?

Komplete 6 and 7 can both be installed. Yes Direct Install 2 is in beta, there are a couple more issues we are working to resolve before releasing it.
If you would like to try it, please create a ticket from plugorama.com.
