This whole thing reminds me of a sign I once saw in a shop

"To obtain credit, the customer must be over 90 years old and be accompanied by both parents"

In Spanish bars:

"If you drink to forget, pay in advance".

What about a chance for the small, poor and inspired people to get their hands on their dream product? I understand some people can afford to purchase it, but believe they deserve it for free. However for some people, $199 is quite super expensive and outside of paying rent, food and student loans it is pushed way outside their range of ability.

I realize that costs are high on your production end, but after it is produced software can be reproduced infinitely... Any chance to have a lower priced version that, lets say, offers "no customer support" so it cuts down on busy work for you and your team, but also allows the little people to enter into the "big" sound.

Just curious...

In order to become a valid argument this statement assumes infinite demand.

Actually there's an easy way to save on Zebra.

Isn't that what Zebra CM is for?

If someone offered you a Mercedes for $199, you'd find the money, wouldn't you? Well, it all depends on how much Z2 really means to you...

So many plugins, so little time...

Participate in the u-he patch contests!

First place gets a NFR license of the u-he product of their choice. If you win multiple contests you get multiple plugins (just ask mcnoone ;)). You can make presets with the demo versions of ACE and Zebra.

So if you're one of those inspired people, submit patches! If you're voted you can go home with your copy of Zebra.

Show me another developer that does this, seriously. We have a contest about every 3 weeks, with a new one starting today:

OK, just checking to see if I read this right... If we send you $199.00 each week to join the Artist Endorsement Programme, you will endorse us and you will guarantee a top 10 hit record along with arranging interviews for us in the press and on tv? AND you will produce and distribute cds and digital downloads of any songs we create that your nieces and nephews approve of? Wow! Where do I send the check, Urs? ;-) (Just kidding!)

I am not "entitled" by any point. I am poor(honestly). Can i get one NFR for poor people copy :hihi:

I'll make one thread every month at KVR and Gearslutz

Only bad thing about this is that you have at least one Zebra thread every month anyway

:hihi:

Many, many u-he users are. Some have saved for months to afford the stuff. These are the first people that come to my mind when I answer a request for a free copy. For "entitled" artists 199$ is the equivalent of an evening out. For poor people (or people in various countries) it's a month worth of food.

And honestly, I have nothing to give away for free to anyone who makes a tenfold of my own income.

I must admit though that most requests for free copies come from people I assume to be wannabe stars. A lot of them just pretend to be famous (maybe they're delusional enough to actually believe that). Some spin a loop about having played with so and so many legends, others point out about their top 100 hit in the early 80ies. Again others mumble something about being assistant to someone I might've actually heard of. Hence the emphasize on proving popularity in the artist endorsement programme.

one request a week is not bad, could be worse. :hihi:

but yeah, a request for a 199 bucks free copy from a guy who's goin to spend twice for dinner out that same day sounds definitely gritty.
