Does anyone know if SoundCloud re-compresses mp3 files?

Or am I hearing things? (It wouldn't be the first time.) :hihi:

although it says it accepts wavs i think it encodes them for playback(and im curious now to know at what quality-i'll read on it later)....but i doubt it reincodes mp3s uploaded to their specs
i think its safer to upload an mp3 than a wav by the looks of it.

Yes SoundCloud re-encodes everything to 128kbs constant bitrate (CBR) MP3 for the player which obviously is not ideal when done from a higher res MP3, so maybe the best is to encode it to that spec when uploading so SoundCloud will leave it alone.

Like already said, terrific quality entries this time. 24 is the second highest field since the last Synth1 OSC, so no doubt this is a popular synth but of course helped by the nice prizes too.

Unfortunately I didn't make it this time with tech trouble at the end, but should have done more earlier so that's no excuse really.. :?

Brilliant collection! ... Well done to everyone ... some fantastic moments and a huge range of ideas and styles .. gonna be a real pleasure judging this one :)

Just a heads up in the meantime though, NA2SC1 is still in the voting phase ... 9 days to go in that one, and only 9 tracks to judge, so go have a listen and see what you think :)

Ok, the number of entries has thrown up the issue of voting method. Obviously theres no time to get a real feel of what folks would prefer, but I'll take on board any comments between now and the launch of the voting thread tonight.

Are we still up for the flexible vote? If so how many votes should we have to allocate? and what would be the max number of entries we can vote for?

If there is little or no feedback, I will make it 36 votes, to be allocated to a max of 10 entries, no more than 10 points to any one track.

So you can go 10, 10, 10, 6, ..... or 10, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, ... or ... 5, 5, 5, 4, 4, 4, 3, 3, 3, ... or .... well? how does that suit? or what do you have in mind?

I prefer a fixed scale for voting. Not only is it hard enough to separate the tracks, but doubly so if you have to decide the points as well.

Also, I suspect not entirely fair either as some will use the full scale to include many tracks and so give their favs less points than someone who might just choose just a few to award points to because of time constraint or whatever, even if both held their respective favs in equal high regard.

How about the old 10-7-5-3-2-1 ?

Point taken V'ger ... anyone else have a view?

+1

I finally had a chance to do this ( the +1 thing I mean )

Post

OK, for the reasons stated by V'ger, I personally prefer the fixed allocations as well so that makes 3 of us.

And btw, it's only noisemaker (14 plugs) and 3 times DUB delay III. Made in renoise and no other effects or eq is used. Only a little compression on the master to get rid of the peaks ;-)

enjoy!

Nice track, shame you didn't make the deadline with it.

Again just proves what a top synth Noisemaker is, one of the top freewares to be sure.
