Problems in Cubase 5 with Zebra 2.5?

Hey, ran into a few things in Zebra and wanted to see if these were 'known' or not?

1) Cubase 5.5.0 Win7 64 bit, first load of the plugin has a large 'unused' part of the interface pop up. So let's say the 'real' interface is 640x480, the full window for it is 800x600. I don't remember that the case on XP?

2) This is the second time I've seen this; it seems to be some patch or some event that makes all the midi data act like it's going through a step arp. I play C over and over again, it plays a 'random' pitch each time I press a key. If I switch to other patches that do not have this behavior prior to this 'problem', they now have the problem. I literally have to unload Zebra out of the slot and reload it back in. Both times I've tried to re-create this, I have not been successful yet. I've seen this on XP 32 bit and Win7 64 bit now under 2.5.

Sounds like this:

"after 10 minutes of use, Zebra will have its own mind on which notes to play... "

(from u-he.com)

I think your Zebra thinks it's a demo?

Duh, that be it for 2). I'm reinstalling all my plugins under Win7 64 bit right now. Stupid question, but how do you register it this time? I thought you right clicked on the top of the GUI and you could register, change the resolution, etc. I can't do that this time?

you should email Urs (urs at u-he dot com), might be a key issue.

Hi Devon,

You don't need to right-click, you just normally click on the main value display.

As for the interface problems, I have a Cubase 5 license on my eLicenser, but I only have a 64bit Mac beta. I'm currently trying to obtain an installer DVD for the othe rplatforms (32bit Mac, 32/64bit Win)

Hi Urs,

I have the same problem. I am cliking everywhere and can't get anything that allows me to register or change resolution. I am using Windows 7/64-bit.

Are you installing the plugins under C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\? If so you might consider moving them out of those directories. Windows 7 treats those directories as very special cases and closely monitors who can write data into them.

I wrote another post about this some time ago:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 71#4262471

If you are reluctant to move the plugins, at least consider moving the u-he data directory. The latest Zebra plugins support shortcuts to data.

For example, you can move all your plugin data into C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Plugin Data\Zebra2.data\ and then right-click and drag the folder back into (say) C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins\, and then select "Create shortcut here" from the menu that pops up. Finally, right-click the shortcut and select "Rename" and then rename the shortcut to "Zebra2.data".

Now when you write files into that directory Windows 7 will no longer be protective about it since the real directory is actually in your Documents folder.

I hope that makes sense.

That means you're using the 32-bit Zebra in the 64-bit Cubase. The VSTBridge does not let my stuff open contextual menus.

There are 2 Options:

a) install 64-bit beta from this thread, maybe remove Zebra2.dll and only keep Zebra2(x64).dll

b) simple use another host running on 32-bit, e.g. SaviHost for the registration until 64-bit Zebra gets finally released

Cheers,

;) Urs

Right, I am a bit annoyed with this, sorry to say.

I was VERY excited after I found and bought this plug-in. Just got it "in the mail" (so to speak). :)

However, with no "register" popping up, I searched and found this thread. Very sad... Windows 7/64-bit, so yes, the VST bridge and cannot register. :(

I am VERY careful of what I install on my PC, so exactly HOW "unstable" is the 64-bit beta version, as far as you know, Urs?

Thank you,
E

I use the latest Zebra2 64-bit betas on Windows 7 64-bit with Reaper x64 and haven't experienced any stability issues (crashes/hangs). I have experienced some audio bugs though and have submitted the bug reports to the 64-bit beta thread. I'd be surprised if it crashed, but I wouldn't recommend using the 64-bit betas as parts in a song w/o bouncing tracks. Hope that helps. :)

U-He betas are generally about as stable as anyone else's release candidates. I'm using the x64 beta in Cubase 5.5 as we speak and it works fine.

So I installed the x64 version and now I am notified that it cannot write files to its directory.

I ran Cubase "As Administrator" and could at least successfully register the product.

I can now run the 32-bit versions with no problems, apart from context menus cannot be used. :(

So how do I give the 64-bit plug "rights" to write to its directory?
(I prefer not to run an application "As Administrator"!)

Thanks for you guys's help!!!

Are your VST .dlls in C:\Program Files\...\VST Plugins?

It seems like Win7 gets cranky when apps try to automatically write files into those directories without permission. I generally keep my Win OSs organized like OSX, with plugins and such separate from the applications.

It's highly likely the problem is Windows 7's new permission system for C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86). I wrote a post about how to get around the problem here:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 03#4321403
(it's about 6-7 posts up).

If you want to keep the Zebra VSTi DLL in one of those two directories the easiest thing to do is make a u-he folder in your Documents folder and then move the Zebra2.data folder into it. Then right-click and drag the folder back to the original spot and let go of the mouse button. You'll get a popup asking what you want to do. Select "Create Shortcut here". Funally, rename the Shortcut to "Zebra2.data". Once that folder lives outside the Program File directories Windows 7 will no longer care about write permissions and you should be all set. :)

Nah, sounds like too much fiddling. I am not that risky with the system. :)

Hopefully Urs will have an installer in the near future. I should not have to rearrange files, and my other plug-ins work fine. I have faith in Urs's progress schedule. :)

For now, I can "Run As Administrator" or just use the patches from the many included and that I've downloaded. I am not sure yet (just installed the pack a couple hours ago, lol) but it would seem Zebralette does not use many (if any) context menus. I turned some knobs in there and had fun for a few minutes.

Thanks again, I *really* appreciate the help!!!
