uhbik 1.1 Installation

I used the v1.1"pre-installed" .zip file.
-- I moved each Uhbik VST into the folder I wanted,
-- I moved the data folder to C:\Program Files\u-he\Uhbik\Uhbik.data,
-- I created a shortcut named Uhbik.data and put it in my FX folders,
-- I moved the third-party presets into the new folders,
-- I moved the new User Guide into my User Guides folder,
-- I re-entered my registration data.

All seems Ok. Have I missed anything?

Now, I have a few questions:
-- do I still need the Uhbik folders / files that are in C:\Program Files\u-he\Presets and in C:\Program Files\u-he\Support? That is where v1.0 Install put them.
-- what is the Themes folder for?

And finally, not specific to the v1.1 install. I would like to use the "Small" GUI size but with the text "Normal" size; what is the easiest way to achieve that?

The whole idea of the Uhbik.data folder is about not having it in C:\Program Files\ - you might be alright under XP, but with Vista and W7 one may experienced an unpredictable mess of file permission and file location issues.

The best thing seems to be moving Uhbik.data into your user's Documents location, and a shortcut to there back into Vstplugins. The shortcut must be named "Uhbik.data", too.
Now, I have a few questions:

If everything is okay then you can delete any reference to Uhbik outside of Uhbik.data. I still recommend to backup your presets if you saved some of your own 8)
-- what is the Themes folder for?
It's the location where 3rd party gui designs can be put. I am however not aware of any yet.

Hmmm... that would be such a theme.

Unfortunately I didn't dare to save the GUI size with preferences. It always has to be set manually (I might change that with the next update). Most of the text is drawn onto the background bitmaps, hence one needs to alter the labels in the backgrounds... so the best bet is editing the background images for bigger text and going with smaller gui size.

Cheers,

;) Urs

OK, thank you. Yes, I'm using XP SP2.

I'll just move uhbik.data into a sub-folder in my "My Documents" folder and change the shortcut. (At least I can put the folder where I wish - some other VST developers insist on putting their stuff directly in "My Documents" - I've got three here at the moment.)

As for the GUI changes - I thought that you might say that. I might give it a go.

I've recenlty updated my OS to Windows 7 64bit. I'm running Nuendo 4 and the UHBIK bundle in 32bit. Since updating, I've noticed a UI graphics bug with all UHBIK plugins. No audio glitching that I can hear, but the setting values graphically don't change when you move the knobs. Makes it difficult to edit settings. Anyone else experience this or know what the issue is? Thanks

That sounds like a permissions problem related to keeping your presets under the Program Files directory. I highly recommend moving your VST plugins outside of the Program Files/Program Files (x86) directories due to Windows 7 treating them as special now.

I posted about this on another thread recently: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 71#4262471

Actually, you should check out the 64-bit betas. They're stable.

Awesome guys, thanks! Moved all my VSTs to a separate folder outside of Program files directory and cleared it up.

Hi, I have downloaded the uhbik demo v.1.1 and everything works fine, great plugins!! However I have problems with the vst's inside this app "Notion 3" link:
http://notionmusic.com/
I am not able to enable the vst's inside Notion, I see them but Notion refuse to enable them.

I am running osx 10.6.4 on a macbook pro intel duo core

Anybody knows anything about my problem?

btw, it works great inside Logic

Thanks / Ulrik

Hi Ulrik, maybe Notion gets a bit confused about Uhbik's ability to do multichannel processing. Do you have a contact at Notionmusic? I'll happily discuss that issue with them.

Post

Hi Urs, thanks for a quick reply!

Brian at Notion music is the man to contact, you can reach him at : support(at)notionmusic(dot)com

I must say you're making a lot of great stuff, I recently bought zebra 2.5 and I have never heard that kind of quality sounds in a softplug ever, and now I'm very interested in your Uhbik bundle as well, it's just that I use Notion a lot for composing and it reads only the vst format, the au's works great in logic but I need to make the bundle work in Notion as well.
Well I hope the Notion staff will discuss this matter with you and that it will end up happily.

Thanks for taking the time, it is really appreciated!

Didn't want to start a new thread just about this, but has anybody got a link to some audio demos of G in action?

Post

G can be subtle or extreme great on drums or adding a spectral type shifting sound to pads and whatever else you want to put it on.

No estimates, but I'm currently working on an overhaul/extension of the GUI engine so that I can use the actual guis of the effects within X itself. It's kind of a gui-in-a-gui approach which is a bit of a stunt. It requires some scripting and encapsulation techniques which have not yet been present. The gui issue is what has been holding me from finishing it in the first place, because re-modeling 9 user interfaces (with 4x adjustments) is a bit of a scare, really.

On the positive side, I've meanwhile added most of the missing pieces to the Cocoa/Mac interface, gui opening time is improved again and the gui editor is getting more comfy to work with. Skinning will be much easier in future.

On the downside, I havn't finished Uhbik-X's engine yet, some routing modes (multiband, transient/body) are still missing.

Also, I think I should add step-modes to the MSEGs. That would solve a hell of a lot of feature requests with a few days of work.

Nevertheless, after 64-bit support, system upgrades and consolidation (including compiler updates, code clean up etc.), Uhbik-X is my primary project till x-mas. Filterscape and Berlin Modular will be my primary projects for next year, alongside some ideas for Zebra.
