Receptor for One Man Band

I found a great deal on a Receptor with Komplete 5, which I suspect is a Rev C.

My demos tend to have BFD drums, 2 massive synths, 2 Kontakt Instruments (Piano Strings), 1 M-Tron Pro, and 1 Battery for AUX percussion. I'm not sure if I'd run all that live, but my plan is to trigger drum patterns with organ pedals that are modified to be a midi controller. I'd also have 2 keyboards and a Doepfer R2M ribbon controller hooked up.

At the moment, I can't afford the 2,000 for a Receptor 2 with Komplete now, but I could save up for a few months (I won't need it until I'm closer to finishing my recordings.) If I could get a Rev C 500$ it may have to be the way I go. For those who have experience with Receptor, would that be able to handle the hypothetical load I have in mind? Would it be better to save up for a Receptor pro? or pro max?

Save up. I do a one-man band setup, and upgrading to Receptor 2 made a big difference in capability and latency. I upgraded from a Rev C Komplete 4 to a Receptor 2 Pro Komplete 5. I was running loads equal to what you are describing on the Rev C with good results, but it often had to be set for a larger latency than I wanted. On the Receptor 2 I can run a setup of 4 Kontakts, 2 Absynths, live guitar processing, 2 Batteries, and Akoustic Piano at 64 sample latency.

If you set it up using snapshots for when you do program changes then it would work fine. You may have to bump sample rate to 256 to save CPU but you might get away with 128.

Receptor 2's are an overall better machine, but keep in mind that if you get a rev C you can upgrade to a 2 pro for 1399.00 If you are paying $500 for a Rev C now then you are saving $100 off buying a New 2 Pro.

Also keep in mind the pricing that is advertised will be ending on October 31st.

Would a receptor 2 be enough for that kind of set up? Or would a receptor 2 Pro be better?

Go for the Pro. The CPU and hard drive will make a big difference in the long run.

The big thing with the Pro is the size of the HDD. It is not easy to upgrade the hard drive on these machines. Plus if you get the regular Receptor 2 you can not go up in size in the future. (ex: if you put a 750gb in it it turns on but has networking problems) Getting a 2 Pro allows you the head room you need in today's sample driven market. If you get a Rev F (Regular 2) you get a 320gb HDD. Komplete 7 is 90gb by itself. Add 75gb for ivory 2 and half of your disk is full before saving any patches at all.

It is something to consider if you want the Receptor to last longer into the future.

PS!!!!!!!! The current marked down prices will remain the same until Thanksgiving!!!
