I voted. I would probably sell/give away/lend out most of the mics if I won the draw (I already have one mic I adore for acoustic guitar and vocals, and I dont mic anything else...) but just supporting some of my favs (like uhbiks) is reason enough to vote.

Now you have a great incentive to do the Uhbik-X, and I bet you will win next yer too.

Obviously, you don't have to respond, but I'm curious what's gotten you stuck on Uhbik-X. And beyond being personally curious, sometimes it just helps to discuss the issues. It's still 25% off because I'm too lazy/slow/dumb/something to deliver Uhbik-X...
In my previous career, I was a software developer, so I can certainly relate on that level. Currently I'm a counselor/therapist and I have training in creativity coaching. Creativity coaching deals with the kinds of issues and blocks that can occur during the creative process. So I've got you covered from a number of angles. I'd be glad to help either here, or by pm.

krankyone,
Well, it started with a bug in Uhbik-G that took me months to find - Uhbik-X without G was unthinkable for me back then. That was early 2009. Then I went through some episodes of health issues, probably also caused by the pressure I put upon myself, and the food poisoning in Italy, maybe. During that time I could only work for short time every day, and I couldn't drag myself to bug squashing. What really kept me going was the work on Bazille, which created quite some enthusiasm.
So in came the whole Berlin Modular thing which went well and got its climax in the release of ACE. During that time I managed to bugfix Uhbik-G. To make a straight cut with all current projects, we had those updates in December 2009 (Zebra 2.5, Uhbik 1.1, ACE).
Then wife and I took off to Australia, where I wanted to recover from the stress and write some user manuals. Instead I sprained my ankle *badly* and couldn't sit at a writing desk properly for weeks. When we came back from Australia we had a loss in the family and I put pretty much everything on hold. One could say, I had some Murphys law going paired with a fair dose of burn out syndrome. That time marks the first half of 2010.
The last couple of months have been rather normal though, but half a year of backlog left a wall of things that's hard to tackle. 64-bit support is one of them (alongside Cocoa support on Mac), enhancements to the gui for Uhbik-X is another. Yet another issue is the upgrade of systems to Snow Leopard and Windows 7, for which I also switched compilers and tidied up 300+ files of source code.
In addition I've started to rearrange things to make u-he more failproof in the future. I got a business consultant in, I'm moving into office space soon, I've completely outsourced manual writing and I think I'm getting some freelancers in for webstuff, some graphics design and some administrative work. I want to spend more time on the creative side of things in future.
So there's quite a lot of stuff going on, and any mental block that might have played a role when I noticed how I underestimated the effort necessary for X is pretty much gone. What remains is still some issues to knock, as Uhbik-X is basically hosting plugins within plugins. Sort of. Which wasn't expected in the design of my engine, so I'm carefully building some enhancements here and there to make it work. And it will work!

I voted.
Man, if only voting on November 2nd was so easy.
I can commiserate Urs. This past year (actually the past two years) have just been horrible, things are looking up though. Take your time and do what makes you happy.

I know you're only 1/2 joking so let's take a look at the real prices of the nominees:VSTJuNkiE wrote:Awww. Don't cry Urs. Ya know what'll make ya feel better?
Having a half off sale......
Plug-in: Effects
01. 2C Audio Aether - 249.95
02. AudioEase Speakerphone - $495.00
03. Eventide Anthology - $800.00
04. Intelligent Devices Plug-ins - $149 + $49 + $79 = $277
05. Lexicon Native Plug-ins - $1,574.95
06. LiquidSonics Reverberate - $75
07. Ohm Force Ohmicide: Melohman - $145.85
08. PSP Delay Pack - $323.11
09. SIR2 convolution reverb - $189.00
10. Sound Toys Native Effects - $495.00
11. UA Plate 140 - $159.20
12. U-he Uhbik - $149.00
Uhbik is $150 and contains 9 effect units (approx $17 each). All the other multi-plugin bundles in this list are several hundred dollars more. Then if we compare a single uhbik device price to some of the other loners in this list (1, 6, 7, 9, 11) you'll see the sharp difference in price here too.
I think you've already got your discount at $149. Urs has to make a living you know.

Your expectations or everyone elses?Addendum: I am afraid though that the expectations for Ubbik-X are too high to meet.
I've admired your efforts to handle so many different aspects of your product. The conceptualization, the design, the coding, the system integration, the product support, the documentation, the marketing, etc. It leaves me feeling a little burned out just thinking about it! Throw in health problems and the usual entropy of life and it's a wonder you're still going. I've worked on each of these levels at one time or another, but never all at the same time.
Plus I intimately know that horrible cold feeling when you think it will take x amount of time to finish something and you suddenly realize it will probably take x to the power of x to finish it.
I'm happy to see you are delegating more tasks to other people. This should help with the stress quite a lot (although sometimes it just causes a different sort of stress).
On the other hand, personally it's very cool to use your products. I never feel like I'm buying something from a company, I feel that I'm buying a piece of software that you made for me. I know this can't last forever, but as I said, very cool. Thanks - John Koranek

It is sounding almost as some kind of Combinator. I was thinking that you are working on sort of Transient ShaperUrs wrote:as Uhbik-X is basically hosting plugins within plugins. Sort of. More like %10 joking. Hiding my true intentions behind humor is the way I cope with my "cheap arsed-ness"....bmrzycki wrote:I know you're only 1/2 joking
I'll do ya one better. When I bought Komplete 5 I got Kontakt and Reaktor 5 (+ all the others) for $30 each. Minding that Kontakt and Reaktor go for $300-$500. Now that's a deal...bmrzycki wrote:Uhbik is $150 and contains 9 effect units (approx $17 each). All the other multi-plugin bundles in this list are several hundred dollars more. I'm sure he does fine. Zebra is an arsenal staple as far as I can tell. It's that "sell 1000 of plugin X @ $150 or sell 10,000 of plugin X @ $50" thing...bmrzycki wrote:Urs has to make a living you know.
The advantage of the latter, is thatIget "plugin X" cheaper....
Although, Urs does let me play with Bazille for free...

I'm a happy owner of Uhbik effects suite for the last 9 months and enjoy using it very much. Easy to get good results and easy on the eyes. I'm getting the gear lust for the Filterscape as well, and saving for another more powerful computer for the Berlin modular series. I don't miss the UHBIK X rack as my main sequencer Numerology3 pro has a very modular set-up where its easy to set up complex routings as well as connect all the Lfo and CV gate controls I need...
Just voted fo the Uhbik..
Congrats on the nomination!!
