So I'd like to use Zebra from drum sounds. Yeah I know I can... but the pita is having a different instance of zebra on different channels for different drum sounds.

That is simply a pain to sequence.

It would be great to have something called "drum mode", so we could open zebra and assign a different patch for every note in the same zebra instance.

For example assign a bass drum on C2, a hi hat on D2, a snare on E2, etc. And of course each sound should be editable :)

Just an idea to make Zebra even better

How about a multitimbral Zebra Player which can load 8 or 16 different patches?

Or maybe indeed a drum machine that loads Zebra patches on its channels...

Been thinking of these for quite a while...

A drum machine would make more sense IMO!

That would be great Urs!

A bit like the ms20 app on the ipad. It has a step sequencer and each drum sound is an ms20.

This would be very, very cool. It could lead to some very innovative use.
Possibly you could do something like Alchemy's and Kore's remix pads?

IMHO: a number of 16 timbres is essential to fill any mpc-like 4x4 drum pad controller (m-audio, korg, akai...)

Urs, you nasty teaser! :hihi:

Wow, that would be so nice to have. I've been thinking of doing a Ace-Tone style soundbank, but the tought of having to load an instance of Zebra for every sound made me quickly abandon the plan.

If you make this Zebra drum-machine, Patch loader thingy, we'll have 808's and Linndrums flying all over the place in no time. Add to that the option to tweak every drum sound by adding an "edit" button on every patch channel, and this could open up a whole new range of possibilities for Zebra.

Great thinking! Now, as our friend Jean Luc would say: "Make it so!" ;)

I haven't posted for months, but this one is enough to bring me out of hiding! Quite some time back I built a drum synth rack in Ableton with 16 instances of the Operator synth...sounds like a mess, but Operator is lightweight enough to pull it off. When I tried doing the same with awesomer/heavier Zebra, it produced megafrownz. :( -snif-

So this would be truly great! Sixteen slots would be devastatingly kickass! PadKONTROL stupidity!

Mucho thanks to the OP and Urs, I will be waiting with baited breath.

I've been able to do that recently with CPU consumption similar to maybe an average-ish instance of ACE - I don't know if you had CPU issues, but Drum Racks have been OK-ish for this. I can't remember if Drum Racks have changed much recently, but the current stuff has worked - I really like Drum Racks but there are certainly some details that are annoying.

I think where this stuff gets tricky is a) single sounds built from multiple layers and b) groups of sounds (e.g. a set of congas), stuff where one might want multiple patches into a single effects strip. Drum Racks can handle this, a lot of (not always fun to manage) routing in a host can handle this. But I guess it seems to me like being able to do that from one instance of Zebra would be pretty keen.

Oh, snap! That would be tight as hell! Now, let's see, hmmm, a group of Zebras are usually called either a herd, dazzle or a zeal, right?. I dunno if any of those work. I'm sure someone will chime in with a good name though.

A well timed thread. I have been working with Zebra
in Live's Drum Racks recently with some cool results,
but I would really dig a Zebra-based drum machine.
Too cool! :D
Cheers,
Scott
