I was considering getting MS-20. So I registered (which btw is just ridiculous the way it works, with 'buying' a product first and all that), tried it in Pro Tools, and decided very fast that i can't use a software with such a lousy interface. Doesn't matter how it sounds when you can't see what the knobs do. Also i couldn't get it to load as an insert on my audio track to use it's 'external input'.

nice one Korg

ohhhh thats one to think about

I bought the digital collection last year.
I think I'm gonna get the MonoPoly now.
I'm gonna check out the MS20 demo first though.

Just bought M1. Apart from the slightly unclear registration process, it is excellent value :) Reminds me of the House Sound of '88 and others :)
If I were to grab another, what would be best in terms of sound and UI? (I know that the MS20 is quite small).

Anyone have any specs on the CPU consumption of the MDE-X effects suite? I would love to same some CPU. I know it was programs quite a few years back, so I am guessing that the needed requirements are quite low. :)

I have a core 2 duo 2 ghz

Anyone that is considering getting the whole package for $200 can end up getting it for $150 instead AND have an additional MIDI keyboard controller to play with.

I know this has been mentioned in the thread but it's worth mentioning again. You have to get the Korg NanoKey ($50 on many websites with free shipping, like here: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/nanoKEY )

You have to get the nanokey, as it comes with the Korg M1 LE program which allows you to then upgrade to the full bundle for $100 instead of having to pay $200. The other 'nanos" won't work for this deal: The Nanopad comes with Toontrack Ez drummer lite instead of M1 LE, and this drum program will not allow you to upgrade for $100. NanoKontrol won't work either for the upgrade.

So, if you are considering paying $200 for all the plugins, buy a Nanokey for $50 and free shipping (if you can where you are located), then register your copy of M1 LE and buy the upgrade to the full package for $100.

I've been playing with the demos and Wavestation is the one I like the most. Great sounds. Great browser with a single click to load a preset. A single click to preview patches as well It makes it really easy and fun to preview sounds. I really like the actual "preview' function that allows you to preview presets in context (as an arpeggio or a chord for example. You chose). I'm only skimming the surface here and I definitely would need to dig in the manual to figure out the Wavestation but it sounds great, seems very unique and has a high fun factor. It seems a little more complicated than I'm used to but I haven't read the manual so I'm just going on instinct when playign with it. The general idea I am getting is that you later sounds which themselves can be sequenced patches (wave sequencer). So you morph sounds together to create a unique patch and then you layer several of these patches together to create one preset.

I liked the M1 most, next..

I like the ms-20 too. The GUI is crap but I like the sounds (I guess you use the edit mode with that crappy scrollbar until you know where all the buttons are, and you then use the Main GUI..). But these 3 are the ones that most impressed me.

Couple questions.

1) The Ms-20 demo has 31 patches loaded by default. Where are the other banks? I am having trouble locating them on the PC.

2) The WaveStation: Is there an init preset with everything set to default values? No patches loaded.. It seems I can only save presets to RAM1, 2 or 3 which are already filled with presets. IS it correct that I have to replace certain presets with others and there is no way to start from an empty bank?

Thanks. I am seriously resisting the urge to get Wavestation. Funny thing is I was sure I'd want M1 more. Turns out I really like it as well, but not as much as Wavestation.
Play it by ear

Actually you just need to hit the "edit" button at the bottom of the GUI to get a very good view of the board to do precise editing of the synth.
I'm using the demo now, and just clicked the edit button, and the knobs are very easy to work with in that view.

The MonoPoly is definitely my favorite GUI. The M1's GUI is also very good. I think the MS-20 and Polysix GUI's should be updated.

You should see a list of 4 or 5 Ms20 banks, on the bottom of the page you downloaded it from.
I have a mac so I don't know where on the pc to put them.
I suggest looking in your vst plugins folder within the KORG folder for them though. Just place the ones you download into that.

No. You'll have to make a initialize preset yourself, and load it up everytime you start. The saving banks part of that, and the M1 can be quite confusing, so read the manual about that.

I have both and like them both, but xphraze is waaayyy more powerful than WS.
But you must not compare them. They are different. WS is more atmospheric, new age, pads, etc. while xphraze is sort of auto-accompaniment, idea-factory, melodic loop thing ...
Anyway, they are two of my most useful vst synths.
Thanks Sotiri!

the tiny GUI'S are just ridiculous!

i'd love to see an update with the same GUI (and additional functionality) as the ms20 ipad version.

I used to have a WS SR and to be honest, this is a classic example of why it would be better if the original hardware developers re-released their old gear as VSTi rather than have outside developers trying to emulate the originals (not that some don't do an excellent job) but clearly the inside knowledge (not to mention the actual original waveforms) certainly makes for a good start.

Well done Korg, I absolutely love this and I guess I'll be getting more next pay day....damn you! :bang:
Nice to see i'm not the only one still impressed by the Wavestation. :)
At the moment i got the Wavestation EX and the Korg Legacy Collection Digital Edition. In the past i also had a Wavestation A/D and a WS SR too.

The plugin is almost identical to my WS EX but in some sounds the hardware has a better low-end and of course it's nice to have a real vector-stick.

BTW the plugin could import original Wavestation sysex files. There are tons of free and commercial soundbanks out there:

I guess that Tony Banks used it in all concerts and albums since around 1991, besides some racks like WS A/D and WS SR...

Actually, in that instance, I thought he was only using the WS as a controller. None of the outputs have anything plugged into them. Only the MIDI out and the footswitch controllers are plugged in.

Okay, I might be way off base. :)

But... starting at the left edge of the back of the keyboard and moving inward, the five empty outputs (i.e. without anything plugged into them) are labeled: PHONES, 1/L, 2/R, 3, 4.

After that are: Assignable Pedal/Switch 1 and 2, damper, backlight contrast, MIDI IN, OUT, THRU.

Just saying. :?

[And nothing against TB or Genesis! I've been listening to them for a very long time and have also seen them in concert several times. Also, I just double-checked the dvd you mention and cross-checked against the back of my WS as well.]
