Anyhow, I can render examples of some Rolands if necessary. Might need to wait until Howie comes over in January.

A little more reading and the SH-2 crops an awful lot - Dave Stewart certainly owned one.
The aficionados reckon its discrete oscillators have a superior sound to the later SH series, supposedly fatter, livelier, more musical etc - maybe you ought to check one out for your research?

Thanks! I stole one of Howard's tricks there: for some reason running an allpass filter in series adds a bit of vocal colour - I guess it creates and enhances resonant peaks and troughs in a similar way to a formant filter. I also used the mod mappers to give each key it's own tone so as to emulate the way that, due to each being a separate recording, the Mellotron varies from key to key.Gino Cortesi wrote:Nice!
That said, I'm not so sure that I've been that successful - my patch is sort of like a Mellotron choir, but it doesn't sound that close to the Tapeotronic I'm attempting to match it against.
I'm sure there's someone here could get a lot closer.

Greet idea for us to do our top 20 or 40 synth sounds of all time!
I agree I didn't really like the future music selection
What fun!!!

Do you think we should try to build a whole list, or do them 1 by 1? (as I proposed in my message). I'm good either way.benburling wrote:Greet idea for us to do our top 20 or 40 synth sounds of all time!

OK, here are a few rather old favourites of mine:
Stevie Wonder - "Rocket Love" (sound at beginning and throughout)
Stevie Wonder - "Ngiculela" (bright sound at beginning and throughout)
Tim Blake (in Gong) - "A Sprinkling of Clouds"
Walter/Wendy Carlos - all sounds in "Switched on Bach" and "Timesteps"
Tonto's Expanding Headband - all sounds on "Zero Time" album
Commodores - "Night Shift" bass
Lyle Mays - SEM pad in "Shadows and Light" (Joni Mitchell)

I guess the SH-2 has the same Osc as the SH-1/09, but two of them. The SH-09 is a bit more flexible than the SH-2 otherwise (audio input...). I'll check the circuit diagrams.hakey wrote:A little more reading and the SH-2 crops an awful lot - Dave Stewart certainly owned one.

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
Naked Eyes - Always Something There to Remind Me
Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls bass
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Lucky Man synth solo at end
is it polite to suggest the supersaw from Van Halen's Jump?

It's just a two detuned Oscillators - that hardly counts for a supersawjcsquire1 wrote:is it polite to suggest the supersaw from Van Halen's Jump?

But it needs to be tuned 1.5 half tones above the rest of the band to be . SCNRUrs wrote: It's just a two detuned Oscillators - that hardly counts for a supersaw
AFAIK most suggestions made until now are from songs from the 80s and earlier, right? I'm 29, so I spent my teenager years in the 90s. It's hard for me to come up with really great signatures sounds from a time that created or - except maybe the ubiquitous 303. Am I so brainwashed or were the 90s so uninspired?
