It does seem like you are focussing on only one element and not necessarily the most useful...whilst simultaneously negating the fact that none of the tape 'emulations' are tape either...they are emulations which to my ears do not sound convincing overall - fart sound or not.

Since owning Nebula R2R Ive not so much missed the fart element of tape...but Ive sold all my other tape emulators and judging by the comparisons Im not sad that I sold my UAD card either...

I find this funny, considering Nebula is actually... wait for it... SAMPLED TAPE, whereas the UAD is an algorithmic approximation.

If you'd know a bit more about how nebula works and followed their development, you'd know that Nebula can not properly sample dynamics.. yet. It struggles especially with "instant" attack/release sources, like tape.

So, all Nebula can do at the moment is approximate the "sound", flavour and harmonic content of tape and it's overdrive. That's all.

no, it is not strange that UAD would put out an expensive tape sim that craps out so easily when driven hard, especially when the source they are emulating behaves exactly like that, too.

Because according to UAD :

You can deliberately saturate the A800 — and get a smooth, pleasing overdriven tape sound

Maybe UAD's farts are "smooth, pleasing".

I mean, if people are pleased (VERY pleased) with the results... isn't THAT
what counts ?

As I see it, this approximation works well for most people... do we have to
seek that "extra inch" just for the sake of it ?...
