It's nearly been half a year since the "what's next" thread started and still nothing new ????
For end of this year you told about the release of MUX VST, if I remember correctly...

How long does your update work normally takes???

Sorry, I am curious

Thx for understanding...I think it's a very important update and I am just curious, what we can expect...

First of all, i want to say i'm proud on MU.LAB 3.2.3, and happy with what we already achieved in the life story of this music tool.

The last months i've intensively made music with it, in cooperation with my musical partner, and these are my main positive conclusions:
  • MU.LAB's sound engine is amazing
  • MU.LAB 3.2.3 is very stable (i cannot remember a single crash, and believe me we had very intense sessions!)
  • MU.LAB can also be used as a live tool
  • MU.LAB is very versatile
  • MU.LAB works perfectly in a mixed OSX-Windows configuration
Of course there is a lot of space and inspiration for further developments.
And these developments are taking place.

But for various reasons there is a serious delay on the estimated timetable.
I could list these reasons here, but i doubt that it makes sense since end-users only examine end-products, the rest is regarded nonsense, i think.

I've been evaluating to release an intermediate MU.LAB 3.5 so to compensate for this delay.
But after some deep thinking, also based on the advice of certain people, i'm convinced it's better to go straight for M4.

So the sad news is: there is a serious delay on the M4 timetable.
But the good news is: M4 is being developed at this very moment and i think it will be the best piece of music software i ever wrote. But it will still take time, months.

I've installed a progressbar on the MUTOOLS home page which indicates the M4 development progress. Whenever this progressbar is updated, it will be moved to the top of the news list, and it will be Twittered around. So this way you have a clear indication of how things evolve.

So what can you expect in M4?

The main challenges for M4 are
  • Further streamline/simplify/ease the workflow while preserving the same great flexibility.
  • Optimize processing and implement multicore support.
  • And besides this there will be a nice list of improvements/extensions (misc. aspects) which will enrich MU.LAB's functionality and make it an even more versatile tool.
This might sound a bit abstract. But it's difficult to give you all items on the M4 wishlist because when i would list the things which are 100% sure already, then the list will be short, and you might be disappointed.
When i would list all 175 items on the M4 wishlist, you'll see it as a commitment/promise, and i cannot make promises yet because i first R&D, then i make promises.
Chance is low that all items will be realized within M4. FYI: When i make a design for a new main version, i first lay out the main challenges, then i start detailing them, and then i include all items on the global wishlist which are related to this. But in the end things also depend on the practical development path.

Ok, to go a bit more concrete about M4:
  • A further evolution of the modular system in many aspects, but especially cpu efficiency, multicore support, enhanced editors and more modules. (cfr http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 92#4149192)
  • There are interesting plans to further evolve the track/part/target concept (this might include colorable racks)
  • Most probably, M4 will have multi-session support i.e. you can open multiple sessions at the same time and copy-paste things from one session to another.
  • We're working on a specialized drum module
  • ... many more improvements/extensions (misc. aspects) ...
Last but not least: About the VST versions of the Mu-modules: Indeed i wished that MUX VST was already here. It's not yet.

But as a 'prove' that VST development is effectively going on too, i've made a first public test release of the MuVerb Vst. (currently Windows only) Please see the "MuVerb Vst Free Test" topic (coming later today) for more details.

I hope this message answers the essence of your curiosity.
Feel free to question me more if you need it.

Cheers,

Jo

Wow, thx very much...that's really a detailed reply many users from other developers would wish...

And great news for me...it seems, that my main wishlist will be fulfilled  mainly the multicore support and CPU efficiency...

looking forward to this release, thx again for the info and congrats, that you have found some time on using your product.

Exactly the post that I was about to write, Trancit :-)

Quality is neither fast development time nor a monster feature list. It is stability in first place, and Jo is one of the developers who share this view AND who have the skills to make it a reality.

Lets have fun with what we have (or can get) already - its a lot IMHO - and wait for the features to come.

Uwe

Like you said: 3.2.3 is just great.

I'm looking forward to M4 but I do not feel limited in any ways with what we've got.
We trust your vision and when M4 will walk the carpet I am sure we all be glad we waited this long. :tu:
