There's this sort of quality that I don't like and I find it hard to fit into my mixes. Ace on the other hand sounds one of the best synths (if not the best) there is right now. You see, I don't have any bias, actually when I tried Ace I was skeptical since my dislike for Zebra but I was really dumbfounded and had to buy it immediately!!! It's strange since they're from the same developer ;)
You will eventually be assimilated! :D
That's right! Zebra didn't really click with me when I first tried it either. Then a long time later I took some time to revisit it and I didn't understand why I didn't like it before.
It is time consuming to properly demo everything out there. Zebra is complex and does not immediately hit you over the head. It took me a bit of time to grok the interface and understand its potential. In the past few years, it has improved dramatically. There are quite a collection of superb soundsets available for it now. And there is plenty of room for more. Zebra is really a synth that grows on you and you appreciate more over time. I find the modular versatility very satisfying and I keep discovering new techniques. Actually, I think Zebra is still under-rated for its ambient and soundscape capabilities.

Very nice again!

Maybe Ace is to Zebra what Relativity is to Quantum Theory. They're mutually exclusive - yet they both provide the most valid models within their realm. But maybe in a not-so-distant future they converge.

It'd be nice if KVR had the ability to attach media clips to comments. Then we could attach this to Urs' statement

nice one!

On the Ace/Zebra front... I like Ace a lot, but I find myself doing sounds in Zebra about 9 times more than in Ace. The interface is absolutely brilliant, and the possibilities seemingly endless. Maybe it's the wires thing... programming in Ace is kind of hit-and-miss for me, and I find Zebra to be more intuitive and/or logical.

I really think Zebra is one of the greatest synths of all time, counting soft- and hardware.

Or this...

We need to find some dramatic Zebra footage. Or at least a dramatic horse that we can touch up in after effects.

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one that had the OMG moment when reading that final line.

Best I could fine....could be wrong on so many levels :)

Ok, ok, maybe I should give Zebra another chance .. I admit I didn't try the 2.5 version, or whatever is the newest. Sure you can do a lot of things with Zebra and even more .. Just the basic sound is not my taste. And no I didn't like Inception soundtrack ;)
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

It's hard to believe, for myself at least, that with the sheer number of filter types and the huge flexibility from just the XMF filter, that you can't squeeze almost any type of synth sound out of it. The fact that you can program your own oscillators is a huge feature, and that the oscillators themselves have the FX tab makes that another hugely flexible source of sound generation. Those features alone are great, but when you add in all of the different modulation sources and that by using the mod matrix even those can be modulated, anyone should be in sound generation heaven. And we haven't even talked about the XY realtime controllers!

Yes but I'm not talking about features ..

Okay, if you don't like its fundamental sound, then don't waste your time.

Zebra2 has a fundamental sound?

Yeah, it's the first frequency in Zebra's harmonic series. You know, that one it always makes when you hit a key. :P

The biggest stripe in a zebra is always his first harmonic.
