Anyway, those who managed to persuade families/partners that the new Dune or ElectraX was much more important than any other gifts could possibly be, you have a week to hammer out something..

Only 2 entries so far I guess is a good sign in that people are polishing for late entries, or waiting for their xmas presents to come in?

Hi, I've uploaded my track, I hadn't inspiration until I tryied this new vst by NI, Mikro Prism... if it's not allowed, tell it to me so I'll delete it...
Here's how it's made
5 istances of mikro prism (very high cpu absorbing power)
no fx at all (all comes from the vst that is yet full of fx)
daw: fl studio 9.7 beta
time to do it: 42'

I've managed to get an entry together for this one - I didn't want to miss it as this time I can use a synth that runs on my machine.
I've gone for AAS Ultra Analog as my synth: VA with no FM.
There are nine instances in all, hosted by Ableton Live running on a Mac.
Ultra Analog has reasonable built-in effects so I've only used one external reverb: Live's own in this case, plus five instances of Live's EQ8.

ok... now the initial plan was to do this with REAKTOR Spark and create something nasty and beautiful, but I forgot that there's gonna be some holidays along the way, which means that I'm away from my daw, my reaktor 5, my midi keyboard, my everything, hey ho. But, hey ho, real men never give up and so I downloaded reaktor 5 player (which includes the pretty awesome carbon, which is capable of quite the nastiness), launched my old copy of fl studio on my parent's computer (single core 2.8 ghz amd something) and created some rock'n'roll. Haha, gotta warn you, if you're allergic to terrible playing (all done on pc keyboard, mind you, though!) and most likely very bad mixes, steer clear from this one. This something raw & ugly for the contrast, which I deeply enjoyed making.
"Another Day's Another End"
lineup:
5xREAKTOR Carbon2
2xParametric EQ 2
2xFruity Convolver
oh, also, while carbon has some wavetables up its sleeves, rest assured I didn't go near them.

I wrote a Christmas song!
Archon1024 - Village in the Snow Globe
Workstation: FL Studio 9.1
Synth: 7x Ogun from Image Line
Track FX: None
Master FX: 2x Maximus
I used a moderate amount of automation for the dynamic changes, pan effects, and the free flowing time changes in the second half of the song.
Ogun was a great synth to use for this contest. It's an additive synth that specializes in metallic and bell sounds. It kept feeling wrong that I was using so few instances of the synth, but I found that extra sounds just detracted from the quality of the bells. Of the 7 instances I used, 5 were used to make bell sounds. The synth has unison, chorus, delay, and reverb build in... so I found I needed to use no external effects... just a couple instances of Maximus on the master to brighten things up.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!

Entry:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a modern Ballet with a tribal story about a Wizard who sends a passing pilgrim to ancient Isles beyond time, known as Shubatiedoobop. [Please see below for the Full Ballet program and accompanying notes - thanks]
Info:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Song Name: A journey to the Isles of Shubatiedoobop.
VA: 18 x Synth1
MIXING: Cubase
Internal FX: Used a few high pass EQ, 1 Compressor, 2 light reverbs
External: 4 x Voxengo SPAN,
Nyquist EQ on Most Channels (usually a small cut, or high pass),
1 x Antress FlashVerb,
2 x TAL Reverb2,
1 x TAL DUB
Ballet Program:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
An old wizard asked a passing by pilgrim to try out his sweet new Teletron Synth Booth (tm). "What the gazoodles is that???", asked the pilgrim.
The wizard looks up to the sky rolling his eyes:
"WHAT IS IT????". The Wizard lowers his tone a bit: "er... it's a machine that will teleport you to the Isles of Shubatiedoobop."
"hmmm, it sounds interesting..."
, says the pilgrim, wondering....
"WELL GREAT!!!", and the wizard pushes the pilgrim into the booth, and presses the button. The Wizard dances wildly.
zooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPP WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOSHHHHHH.... suddenly a bunch of 0's and 1's come up....
"whoooooooooooooooaaaaa!", the pilgrim is floating in a tunnel. It's pretty cool, "This is nice!", he says. He then dances
"WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHA" CLUNK... he falls into a boat... the sound of the water is clear, and the breeze strong. Next to his is a bottle of Seagram's Liquor.
He takes a drink and enjoys the ride to Shubatiedoobop. He dances, ever closer to the Isles, the great Isles of Shubatiedoobop.
Notes:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was very inspired by Mulperi's song Runing, from the OSC19. One of the best songs I have ever heard. Thanks! Also, this is my first time here at KVR, greetings to all. For a long time I've wanted to model the sound of guitar strumming via the piano roll, and I think I got close, so I'm pretty psyched!
