It looks like you can make a full use of this tool when you load a sample in it more than letting a sound flow into it.
I say this without having tested it; will demo it in ten days as I don't have the time to make a good use of the demo time limit before the beginning of February.
About controlling, there are so many superpowerful midi foot controller nowadays so the fun of midi programming specific strings is always open...
