There will be a bunch of mini tutorials (actually screen-captured walk-throughs), and I'm pretty sure I'll HAVE to reuse some of those tricks in the "book"!

Found a bug in the Zebra2 manual.

Create New Handle (max. = 33)
Mac............. cmd+click on the background
PC................ ctrl+click on the background

Should read:

Create New Handle (max. = 33)
Mac............. cmd+click on the background
PC................ alt+click on the background

Good news: I gave Howie an in-depth run through Zebrify. He can basically finish the manual now 8)

Where, when, how much? ;) Can't wait ... I'm not a very skilled sound designer, I gave up on Absynth (it's a great synth, though) and now I really want to try it again using Zebra.

This sounds great, thanks for this and the manual(s) :)I'm getting back to work on Zebra later this week. Any tips/sound design tutorials on sound design you know of? I don't know is I'll ever achieve pro static as a sound designer, but I'm certainly enjoying my self. Thanks again. :)

Howard's older work (heavily Virus-centric) is great for interesting tidbits and sound design comments. I too am looking forward to Howard's Zebra ones but for now this doc will definitely get you started. :)

Programming Analogue Synths (PDF).

Howard also created a mini-tutorial PDF that accompanies his excellent Zebra Science commercial soundbank. It's very much in the same vein as the previous document but applied to Zebra. Any lover of the Zebra Factory sounds should definitely own this. :)

Version 4 available - see OP.

Includes Zebrify chapter, many tiny edits to the rest of the text plus a slightly improved initialize patch.

Wow, how did I miss this? Must check it out!

Hi Howard,

Re Zebrify: The new manual states that MSEGS are only available in the Midi input mode. However, the looped portion of the MSEG seems to free run for all the input modes.

Also wondering if can we supply an updated init patch for Zebrify. Might make it easier to get up and running.

Here is mine for consideration: http://www.box.net/shared/rgk1t630n0

Changes I made to my init patch:

OSC1.Vol > ENVFOL1 (70)
OSC2.Vol > ENVFOL1 (70)
Noise1.Vol > ENVFOL1 (70)
Noise2.Vol > ENVFOL1 (70)
FMO1.Vol > ENVFOL1 (70)
FMO2.Vol > ENVFOL1 (70)
MSEG 1 - 4 added loop start and end

Best regards,

Gino

I just tried MSEG again - doesn't loop here (Mac OSX + Cubase, Logic, Reaper...)
Your tweaks to the initialize patch make good sense, though. :)

Hi Howard,

Hmmmm... for the MSEG looping I'll try a few different hosts.

Does your MSEG free run and loop when you set it as a modulation source?

On my system, I have to send it a midi note, then the MSEG "wakes up" and loops. If I save the Zebrify patch after the MSEG is running, the next time I load it it'll loop (without sending it a midi note).

Best regards,

Gino

No. What's your system, Gino?

Actually, instead of sending MIDI one can also automate clicks into the keyboard control. This should also trigger the MSEGs.

And indeed, if the last point of an MSEG is the loop end, it should just run freely (provided it is used as a modulator anywhere).
