ironic, this is exactly why you can't do tests

Just Got Paid - ZZ Top cover, but kind of the way Joe Bonamassa does it minus the extended jam with all the Zeppelin riffs thrown in.

Cranked the amp to an insane level (well master was only halfway up on 5) and yes it got hard to monitor with the headphones and hard to hear the backing tracks sometimes with the amp being in the same room. I hope it didn't cause tinnitus :-o

Tubescreamer clean boosting the Soldano Hot Rod 50 in vintage crunch mode on clean channel on medium gain with a dark bassy heavy tone dialed in on the amp EQ. Mic, a vintage Shure SM53, is moved a good 4-5 inches back to compensate for the heavy bass response coming from the cab. Just an M-Audio USB Mobile Pre as the preamp. Midi drums and bass.

The Shure SM53 mic I used, if the history of how it was acquired is accurate, could be the very mic that recorded the Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama guitar tracks and the other songs on that Skynyrd album. If there were live recordings, those as well.
The vocals... are they serious?
you see, on such tests the subject is not the vox so what good does this post do? You ask for guitar samples an criticize the vox? That might be why people are reluctant to do tests
what's your problem? It seems like there are 3 people in this entire forum with thousands upon thousands of posts attacking anyone that doesn't agree with them. Someone starts a thread and it ends up with hibidy and hink going on and on about nothing.

I didn't ask that guy to record a live guitar and song with vocals. And how is that in anyway an A/B recording of the same riff recorded live and with an amp simulator.

To be honest I don't see any science just a bunch of rhetoric in this overly long thread. I'm out bye.

@Deathwish, it seemed that way. Maybe it's not what you meant, but it seemed like you were putting down metalifuxx.

If that wasn't that way then don't get upset and run off! People are MORE than welcome here......it's not like we are part of some "click"

attacks? Disagreeing with someone is not an attack, being abusive or abrasive is but is there really a lot of that in this thread? I have enjoyed this thread with pretty much the same people I have in the past, the disagreements I might have with them are not abusive, personal and at the end of the day we're all friends. Good things come from debating, people end up learning new things as a result. One person I have had a disagreement with in the past benefited from a suggestion I made and got a nice speaker cab while saving himself some cash...I think that's good.

So I don't have a problem, do you? You asked a question and I thought it noteworthy the irony of you answering your own question. From the tone of this post you far more seem to be the one in attack mode. You asked a question, it's not my problem you don't like the answer

I like constructive criticism. A simple "Your vocals suck. Leave them out of a guitar post..." or something would have been fine. But a vague hypothetical response "of are you serious". If you are going to rip on someone at least do it right and proper  8) :P

I had thought of using GSnap or Kerovee for pitch correction but would have sounded like Cher singing a form of my butchered ZZ Top. There was a vocal midi track in that GM file I could have linked that plugin to, but did not want to submit anyone to any more torture. :hihi:

haha!

I thought the vocals sounded fine, they just need to be delivered with a little more enthusiasm.
Most successful rock vocalists get a D for pitch, but an A for effort.

Time and time again you get posts like this and the posters never seem to have posted a single tune in the cafe, they have no link to their music anywhere, yet they can fire off criticism like nobody's business. It's fine to have an opinion, but what's the point of giving it unless it's specifically asked for?

I feel very much the same way but I assume these people need the ego boost and if taking a cheap shot at me gives them what they need once again that's not my problem. I may not be the greatest but I am quite comfortable with ALL my abilities and love this world where we have so many choices and it's all good.

In fact sadly there is one member here who does not have a link to his music, who's member number is one of the lowest so he's been here longer than almost all of us and time after time he has taken cheap shots at my music (but agreed with me on other things). Yet never a link to his music and for some reason he has to put my stuff down. He has some good things to say on my thoughts, he's not around much lately and I like him however he's never responded to any of my friendly PMs...and again, his problem...I'll continue to learn from him and he feels he can't learn from me I'm not going to sweat it

Which Bad Cats are you guys interested in? We're going to become a Bad Cat dealer soon so I'm curious to find out which one KvR'ers are into.

I have played on a Panther Reverb model in store, and my friend's Black Cat model. The Panther has a tasty reverb pot which can get some vintage type rock tones, and the reverb actually has quite a deep spacious ambient tone to it, unlike a clangy spring reverb. I want to try the Hot Cat high gain model, which seems to be their most popular, and also the Lynx head. They get loud very fast with the sweep of the gain knobs. They compliment just about any overdrive/distortion pedal very nicely. When my friend was trying to find a store that had a Bad Cat to demo, we must have tried just about all the stores in stock OD/Distorion pedals through it, and we were hard pressed to find a pedal that did not sound bad going into the Panther model. It didn't help that he expressed interest in the amp and a pedal, so the sales guy kept bringing us handfuls of pedals every ten minutes and told us to crank it as loud as we wanted :) . Now that is service in a music store, and it was not a Guitar Center. Be aware that they are more boutique like amps that aren't as well known to the pop music masses.
