"Automation" notwithstanding, no "midi-learn" is the deal breaker for me.

Having played with this a bit, and watched/listened-to any/all vids/demo's I could find, it is cool, and fun, and I do like the layout/interface... but it is seriously lacking (IMO) as a "real-time" tool. And tbth, for the asking price it is a rather limited "pony".

I thought mod wheel controlled the buffer position... doesn't it?
it does, with all other parameters that are on, it only overrides the scene length (yes, you could make a scene with only the buffer with a range, but then you'll lose al automation from the scene on the other parameters, rendering the sffect a basic stutter fx, not worth 250$ to me

what i like(d) about SE is that it was all integrated (and dblue glitch is NOT mac compatible)

I would encourage anyone who cares to write in to Izotope support and request host automation. I did and they replied it wasn't planned. But if they know that enough of us won't buy it because of that, I'm sure they'll consider adding it.

emailled them too, everyone wanting automation should do so

Another feature I'd like to see is the ability to transpose the notes in the arpeggio editor. It may be me not understanding it fully, but that'd be a timesaver.

Because it would give you control over the individual parameters within each module. That's not the same as using the piano roll or <insert generic effect here> plugins. For example, maybe we'd want to automate the widths of any of the parameters, or the dry/wet balance on the delay, or the filter cutoff and resonance, etc.

I don't think that anybody is asking for the world here (or even to iron our shirts :P ), but at SE's price, host automation is not an unreasonable request IMO. Less expensive glitch plugins like Sugar Bytes' Artillery 2 and Effectrix have host automation. And, btw, 218 did not give SE a "-1" for not having host automation as you implied; to the contrary, he clearly offered the opinion that it's a quality plugin that would have an incremental increase in quality by adding host automation (see the quote above).

It would also be nice if it had MIDI learn so that we could use our controllers to tweak parameters when creating presets. I hate feeling tethered to a mouse sometimes. And, again, I don't think that's an unreasonable request since similar plugins (e.g., Artillery 2) have this feature.

edit: you guys beat me to it!
Surely Izotope is watching this thread and will come to realize that host automation is an obvious feature, that a plug like this deserves. I really like SE, but must admit that it was a little frustrating finding out that host automation isn't an option.

Gave it another shot in a new song I'm working on and suddenly realized there's no 1/1 stutter...
This plugin indeed has potential but it's a bit too much restricted for a $250 product.
Especially the buffer position control could really be a timesaver but I fear this time gets lost again when working around the plugin's limitations.

Cheers,

But you also can't adjust the settings like speed and filter by hardware control or make any automation outside of what's written into that specific preset. Ever watched any videos of people using the finger or Artillery etc.? Half the fun is not just pressing a button but also tweaking controls live as well. It's cool and all that automation can be written into each preset, but common, how in 2011 is it not possible to control these parameters with hardware or host automation. It's ridiculous if you ask me.
Aaah, well, thanks for explaining it. Now I understand what it is you want to do. This goes beyond what I expect from SE, which is to have some interesting, short one-shots. I have and use Artillery, but, seriously, most of the glitchy cut-up effects that SE does so nicely sound stupid and contrived when spread over anything longer than a bar or two, so I can't really see why you'd want to do that. Artillery is different in that way, you can lay in an effect and work with that for a while.

Besides, both the Buffer and Global Filter can be controlled by CC. More than enough for me, but your mileage can and probably will vary. Fair enuff.

Unfortunately I've got no place for midi cc assignments in my setup, as I don't need to otherwise at all. All hardware control is done via Ableton's instant mapping (which needs VST parameters to be exposed to the host same as with Logic or cubase host mapping), which lets the selected device be controlled by various hardware, or by Kore or by automap. All three of these require parameters to be exposed. It drives me nuts when plug-in manufacturers only let something be controlled by midi cc and fail to realize that all the most useful hardware mapping is done via parameters being exposed to the host.

Not having played with the demo yet, I can't be sure, but it does seem to me that a lot of what this plugin does is already possible with the rack effects in Ableton Live. There are several beat chopping and stuttering effects chains included, and companies like Puremagnetik take it even further.

That being said, this one looks to be worth a look-see.

What were they thinking? It's essential.

I can't believe not a single control is automatable. Not even the master filter. No automation, no mapping the parameters to Kore controls or automap or any Native host mapping. No hardware control. Yay mouse. I wrote an email to support asking if this would be addressed. They said no plans to add automation support.

At the risk of repeating myself: why the hell would you want to? Use <insert generic effect here> for that. Is it so hard to press a goddamn button? If you don't like that, just use teh frikkin piano roll. Sheesh.

Gee, I like my car a lot, but I wish it could iron my shirts, as well. -1 for my car.

Rant over. Apologies to all, may you live in blessed harmony and peace forever. :P

Are they insane? How can you record what you play in realtime without host automation? Do they expect everyone to record straight to audio? This would also make it impossible to use in Kore.
