hi all,

I'm a new user.

After installing mu.lab, i got this crackling speaker sound whenever I playback any sound.

Can anyone advise how to remove it?

thanks

Normally this only happens when the CPU cannot process all music in time.

You can check the CPU meter in the Transport Panel, does it indicate a high CPU load?

Could it be that you have an older computer with a less powerful CPU?

Do you have the right audio drive for the job?

hi!
thanks so much for the very fast response. see, I'm writing and gonna try producing a demo for some songs for record company. so i really need something to work with.

I can't find the CPU load in the transport panel and the notebook is less than a year old using Windows Vista Home Premium.

thanks again

First thing to do: please find the cpu meter. In the standard skin it's below the tempo. If you hold your mouse over it it will say "CPU Meter".

Can you find it?

thanks! found it but it showed only 23% max, still crackling

I'm using fujitsu s7211 series notebook and i updated my latest realtek audio drivers to 6.0.1.5485

how much ram do you have? what else is running when you run mu.lab? are your drivers asio drivers?

This week I had the same effect. After searching a lot I found the "MME Number of Blocks" was accidendally set to "2" instead of "8" or "16". Now everything works fine again.
Maybe you have the same problem?

BTW: Are there any suggestions for the settings in the "Audio Setup"? A description like "which adjustment has which effect" would be helpful. I've found nothing sufficient.

Thanks for the hint Reincke.

Wow, 46 minutes for update and reply - that's new world record, isn't it? Thank you.

Another subsequent question:

Is "buffer size" = "MmeNumBlocks" * "MmeBlockSize"?
If so, behaves MU.LAB different with 1*4096 or 16*256?

I've read about "CpuLoadLimit=200"? A valid value?

Okay, I'll shut up and won't disturb any longer in developing M4 ;-)

Yes.

Yes, this can be system dependent.
Updated the docs on this.

Yes because on some systems there can be sudden CPU spikes, and maybe you don't want these spikes to stop the audio engine. So further raising the CpuLoadLimit may make sense in such case.

But maybe it's a bit exagerated because the CPU meter itself is already smoothed i.e. spikes are already smoothed by a simple lowpass filter.

So maybe the CpuLoadLimit should be limited to 100%, just to avoid confusion?

I have 2GB of ram, and i'm using Realtek drivers, selected MME drivers in the software.

nothing else is running except windows defender/security alerts, basic stuff

I SOLVED IT SOMEHOW~yeah!

well this is what i did:

number of MME blocks from 8 to 16
MME size from 512 to 1024
CPU load limit from 90% to 200%

hope it's useful :p

search for and install asio4all then switch your driver to asio

this gets mentioned a lot here by the way
