Perhaps people can suggest their idea for voting.

Their idea may include any of the u-he VST's and what particular "sound" they would like seen designed.

Then a post of them and a week long voting process on the most popular idea.

Yep, that's exactly what we've been doing!

Have a read through the contest thread. ;)

The fact that the level of difficutly is inversely proportional to the participation is a byproduct of the competitive aspect of any true competition, but I can understand the necessity to mitigate that for the sake of the participation.

That's why I think the creating to a picture idea is brilliant. It strikes a good balance between a goal oriented competition and being wide enough for creators of any talent to participate in. And there are lots of pictures on the web ;)

Re: Zebrify... duh, of course. I read "Zebra".

Voting is closed!

The top 3 presets are the following:

01. Snowflakes (22) - 3ee
02. Heaven (14) - satYatunes
03. Krystalix: (13) - 3ee

Congratulations to 3ee for his excellent Snowflakes patch! Keep in mind Urs is on holiday in Australia so it may take him a bit to get your first prize award to you. ;)

To everyone else who submitted presets, offered suggestions, or voted; thank you for making these contests interesting and enjoyable!

And thanks to hakey for working on getting the next contest details lined up.

:D

Hakey, that is what I thought, except there seems to be a bit of confusion. The thread devoted to voting has become the discussions thread with regard to the next contest, I only thought it best to try to simplify the terms, to avoid this and stay OT, that is all.

Post

Well done 3ee :)

I voted for your snowflakes patch so i think the right person won :hihi:

Well done 3ee!

A thoroughly deserved win - a lovely patch, musical, well balanced and tweaked to perfection!

(BTW thanks for picking my patches 3ee - you have a discerning ear. ;) )

Thanks to bmrzycki for so efficiently doing this end of the contest - collecting and distributing patches, counting the votes etc - well done!

I notice that the final results weren't posted until a whole 3 minutes after voting closed - so some room for improvement there.

Perhaps. I have tried to keep things as simple as possible.

Having a dedicated theme suggestion/voting thread might be another way of doing things, but undoubtedly some people wouldn't see it and it would unnecessarily clutter up Urs' forum. At least putting it in the contest thread those interested are more likely to see the discussion (in fact, if you're taking part it's a good idea to keep your eye on the thread anyway).

And I have to say, if you read through the contest thread, I really went out of my way to explain this new way of deciding the theme, for example, asking for suggestions at least half a dozen times, maybe more.

So who's owning up to their patches?

Mine were Hyperborea and Zyngk!

EDIT - I see the info's been edited into the OP.

Post

wow.. I can't believe this... this was my first try in creating patches... saw some tutorials on youtube especially by Zircon and Urs before delving into it... ending up at number 2 is a huge encouragement going forward... I learned a lot during the whole process so I'm thinking of creating more patches and sharing with all zebra users... thanks to everyone who voted my entry...

Congratulations 3ee. Well deserved and a very nice patch. I also voted for the "snowflakes" ;-)

Post

My patches were Big Pulsator and Gritty Porter. Glad i at least got one vote :)

  :ud: :-o :o :hyper:  :wheee:

Thank You so much guys!
I must say that this is the best prize I've won so far!
I'm very happy about this and I love to program patches! For me, programming a patch is almost like creating a whole track.
To give something back, I was thinking I would maybe take all the patches from this contest and try my best to remix them using Zebra 2.5 (that would be my pick, such a great synth!) and then post them here. If someone for some reason wishes that I don't remix his/her patch, feel free to post on this thread or PM me.
Thanks again everyone!

Gonna be back with some more feedback about some patches that I like, so stay tuned if you wish! :)
Cheers
3ee

Hey guys, I have some feedback on some patches that I like or found something interesting about them. Please note that I'm not a professional sound designer (I sure what to become one) and these are my humble opinions so hope you're cool with some occasional "harsh" criticism if any. :hihi:

Aqua Palace Pad: Like the tone and the feel of the patch and it also resembles the name but... I found if a bit overlly complex and that also limits playability.
---
Big Pulsator: That's pretty cool, makes me think more of modern gritty stuff, a bit too simple though.
---
Cinema: Loving the MW action (found myself using it a bit). Not really a favorite because of the overall reverbery feel and because it's kinda static with not much going on.
---
Demons Breath Bass: This has a cool grimey feel to it but it's disturbed by the nasty hi freqs. Needs to be a bit more tight/solid/optimised as a bass sound.
---
Expanded Trajectory: This is a great patch! Love the PWM via presure idea and some sithar-like resonances that are cool also! Clean, tight. It has a star next to it in my list. :D
---
--
-
---
Flutes of the Fallen: Cool MW action! There seems to be a gap between the name and the feel of the patch.
---
Frequent Stops: Very nice modulation... but it's got what it seems to me like a sort of annoying chicken cluck timbre and the delay add is a bit too much. With a bit of tweaks this could be a great patch! (Has anyone tryed the PitchWheel on this one?)
---
Heaven: Great patch! Try this with it: OSC mode set to dual, detune set to ~2.50, env release"R" set to ~70, delay mix set to 50!
---
Hyperborea: My personal favorite!
---
Incorporeal: Almost a great patch one but there's something bugging me about it (the wavewarp modulation).
---
Interloper: Very nice calm watery-reflection feel, could use some more tweaks.
---
Krystalix: My 2nd patch for this contest, the one that almost didn't make it in the contest. MW use isn't a necessity!
---
Pad Angels Breath: Very nice texture!
---
Port of Escape: Normalise almost to max, very nice subtle things. Wave 15 illustrates the name of the patch.
---
Rhythmic Chatter: Great patch! I always play chords on this one instead of one note. Some sort of futuristic oxidised feel to it. Lovely!
---
Singing Pad: Very nice calm texture could benefit from some more tweaks (waveform spectral+mod).
---
Snowflakes: Took a couple of days to complete. Has anyone tryed lower single notes stabbed at different velocity?
---
The Stand for Light: Cool tone!
---
Zyngk!: Great Patch! This would also make a great digital EP. Poly with no portamento, waveform resolution set to ~3 and EP adapted amp env.

Congratulations 3ee :)
Good work!

My patch was "Incorporeal" (actually my first Zebralette patch)
