Crackling Sound on Asus Xonar D1

I'm experiencing heavy noise while using asio4all. Why can I not use the asus driver instead (won't activate)?

for MME:

increase number of blocks and block size

for asio4all:

open the asio4all control panel and increase buffer size until there is no crackling.

in both instances, try for the smallest buffer size without crackling.

Thanks, I will try that. Any Idea about why the xonar drivers don't seem to work?

reinstall the driver? i dunno.
