Hi all

Recently had an accident and managed to totally mess up my Zebra install.

Can some one please advise the following:

•1• What the folder paths should be in my config.
•2• How to identify what files are preset patches, OSC's, MSEGs and anything else I've missed.

My config is as follows and I do seem to have a load of sub paths that have somehow duplicated. I could resintall but I still need to know where I should be placing everything from the mess.

VST is installed in c:\program files\Steinberg\Cubase 5\VSTPlugins

Presets = G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Zebra2
Modules = G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Modules

AS mentioned I have an unsual amount of sub directories in the main data path:
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra
This includes the following list:

G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\_MacOSX
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Data
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Modules
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Presets
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\PS Zebra2 Teksonik
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Support
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Switched On
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Tunefiles
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Zebra2
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Zebra2 AbstractCats
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Zebra2.data
G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\
ZRev
and a bundle of *.KSD files that I am guessing are Kore templates (I don't have only Maschine and Komplete7).

Think some of the presets have managed to dupe into the G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\ folder and some in the G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\\presets.

The folders MSeG and Oscillators have a mixture of files and the MSegs are not showing up in Zebra or are and not working likewise with OSC's.

The files type extensions appear the same. Also some of the sub folders have Wav files in them that must correspond to something.

I am still learning Zebra and tbh the folders look like feckles :help:

Please help and thank you.

Yes, once resolved a backup will be due...

Some one must be able to help and direct me please....

...any takers, please

I'd recommend examining the Zebra2.data folder found in the pre-installed receptor .zip file:
http://zebrasynth.com/download/Zebra25PreInstalled.zip

The only directories that contain presets should normally be:
u-he\Zebra2.data\Modules
u-he\Zebra2.data\Presets

Everything else are files used by Zebra as data files. Those files are safe to delete and re-install with Zebra.

You can also search your hard drive for *.h2p files. Any directory containing those has u-he presets.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. Checked out the link much appreciated.

I am still unsere what files types/extensions MSEG files are (or is that a RTFM re MSEGS, guessing they're all WAV's?)
Oscillator file types are *.h2p
Presets file types are *.h2p

Why is it important to have two different Folders for the same file types? I would have thought they are only readable by Zebra.

Still learning :?

Thanks again :)

Thanks. I wasn't sure as the Receptor install link and manual says it comes empty, no files content.

On my directory G:\_Soundbanks\_U-he.Zebra\Modules\MSEG I have sub-folders with file type *.h2p, Zebra presets. I am reading into your response I need to move them to the presets folder and give them a try.

I am guessing possibly any sub-folders containing *.Wav files in the \MSEG sub-folders shouldn't be there or belong to another folder? Where do the *.WAV files belong?

Thanks again...still reading manual, find it hard to digest theory/read :( more hands on. Need help restructuring my Zebra folder :)!

You should have no .wav files in your zebra.data folder; Zebra can't read wave files.

You need to move MSEG and Oscillator .h2p presets into the Modules/ directory and full Zebra2 presets into the Presets/ directory. They won't work right if you place the MSEG into the presets dir.

I don't understand why you don't trash everything and reinstall... ??

Thank you to both.

Thanks didn't know the Wav files shouldn't be there

So how do I identify what files are MSEG presets?

I've have a lot of soundsets I've purchased and don't want to lose. I should've kept the original downloads seperate.

Think I got it sussed with the folder structure.

Guessing all the sub-folders in the \modules\MSEG folder should be in \modules\Oscillators folder, unless the sub-folder in the MSEG folder is named MSEG? Probably moved in error from Oscillators orignally.

\Zebra2.data\Modules\Oscillator\Factory OSCs have files named *.h2p files, same as the \Zebra2.data\Presets\Zebra2 *.h2p files. How do I know which is which?

What file extensions would MSEG files have *.???

Take all the preset folders and save them to a different part of your hd.
Delete everything Zebra, but the preset folder.
Re-install.
Just look in the manual about mseg's and wave tables, and how to load them, for that problem.
btw...are you using the demo or what?

I don't know of an easy way to determine a preset is MSEG vs OSC or real preset. The text file header is similar for all three presets when opened in wordpad. The only real difference is the binary data region at the bottom seems smaller for modules (makes sense, less data to store).

If you still have the manuals for the commercial banks they should list their patch contents.

Here's what I would do:

Get a DVD-R, burn the entire G:\Soundbanks directory to it, so you are certain you don't lose any files.

Clean up the install directory on G:\Soundbanks with a full re-install of Zebra.

As you read the documents for the commercial soundsets you can get the names of the mseg/osc presets and then carefully copy those out of the DVD and into the correct Zebra2.data/ directory.

At least, that's how I'd do it. :)

Sorry, I hadn't had a chance to anwer emails yesterday.

I don't quite get why there's a MacOSX folder. I though I made the Receptor download without the typical Mac zip artefacts

Anyhow, the structure should be like bmrzycki said. Unfortunately there is no easy way to tell full presets from MSEG/Osc files. If you have a clever text processor/search function, all MSEG/Osc presets have the line "#defaults=no" whereas full presets don't. If that helps... maybe

Cheers,

;) Urs

Thanks all for the advice. Went back to the beginning and started over moving the preset folders. On resintall when loading Zebra the gui was corrupt and discovered why...

For some reason in a sub-folder in on one of the presets had a duplicate copy of the data folder and route folders from a previous install :(

Only folder structure in a program I've had problem with a plugin. All good now and working nicely so job done and don't think I lost any presets on the way, going to check my in box to check :)

I think what I found confusing was the way some sound banks are strutured is with the MSEG/OSC subfolders in the zebradata folder and my own fault for not being clumsy at sometime.

I'm off to read the manual and enjoy....thanks a lot.
