Reverse samples

Hello,
new question from newb:
I would like to insert reverse (re-)played cymbals in a song (you know these lovely psychedelic gimmicks). Of cource I can reverse a sample within an audio editor and add it to a song via multisampla. But there is a problem in TIMING. The end of the reversed cymbal (the loudest point) should end exactly at a given point (e.g. at a beat). Okay, I can adjust the note's start an end until it fits. But as soon as I change the bpm or switch to another sample (length), I again have to adjust the note's start/end.
A good job for a "dumb" computer, isn't it?
Does anybody have experiences in the efficient use of reverse samples?
Thanks in advance.

Simply use a start locator that is beyond the end locator and the sample will play from start to end, which is reversed playback in that case
And using these locators it's also relatively easy to trim things so timing is right

Cool, it's all inside MU.LAB ...
And thank you for the quick reply.

You're talking about the locators inside the audio lab, aren't you?mutools wrote:Simply use a start locator that is beyond the end locator and the sample will play from start to end, which is reversed playback in that case
So with "note end" the sample's end will be played, indepedent from note's or sample's end?mutools wrote:And using these locators it's also relatively easy to trim things

Yes, locators are created in the audio lab.Reincke wrote:Cool, it's all inside MU.LAB ...

But it's in the sample player that you actually select the start, loop and end locators, so this can be different from sample player to sample player
On note start, the sample starts playing at the selected start locator. So with "note end" the sample's end will be played, indepedent from note's or sample's end?mutools wrote:And using these locators it's also relatively easy to trim things

When this start locator is beyond the end locator, the sample will start playing backwards i.e. reversed. Hope this explains things. Try it out

Oh Lord, what did I write? Sorry, I meant, if two notes with different note lengths play the same "reversed" sample, will both notes play the correct sample end at the end of both notes?Reincke wrote:So with "note end" the sample's end will be played, indepedent from note's or sample's end?

It also depends when the note starts of course.
But please just try it out, it will be the best way to get a feeling what you can do with it

That depends on a couple of things. First off, Mulab's sampler's don't do timestretching, so if you're playing the same sample at a different pitch the length will change. That assumes you've set up the ADSR envelope to play the entire sample. There's also the note start, like Jo says.Reincke wrote:Oh Lord, what did I write? If you don't absolutely need to play the sample at differing pitches I'd say using an audio part would be best for this, so you can easily make sure the end matches up with where you want it to.
