I've just acquired a new/used Receptor Pro with 750GB HD and 2GB RAM. I play keyboards in a live cover band and I've bought this to replace my dying Korg Triton on stage. I plan to midi this up to an external controller and create multi's for about 70% of the material we play.
I've downloaded the manual and I've been using the search function on the KVR site. Just wondering if there is a good tutorial on how to build and organize multi's for performance. I'm a bit in the weeds here. I've been experimenting with some of the softsynth plug ins that came with the unit but it's still not clear to me how I can access these multi's easily on stage during a show.
Secondly... is it possible to control the Receptor with two separate MIDI In sources? For instance one using the regular 9 pin input and another using USB.
Third- Any good recommendations on Softsynths and VSTi's to use to replace the patches I use on my Triton. I need decent bread n Butter sounds-sax, brass, piano, organ etc... I also need current dance/trance patches. I'm not so interested in VA or analog emulations. I'm more or less looking for a softsynth that would be an equivalent to the synth offerings most modern romplers offer. I expect to program, however I'm not really interested in starting from scratch.
Any advice would be helpful...
Brand New Receptor Pro Ver 1.7 owner- Need some guidence for onstage use.

It's really not too difficult - just put whatever different plugins you want to play for each song into different slots of a multi, and give them different MIDI channels. You'll need to set up your keyboards to send on those channels of course. Then for any given song, just choose a multi and you're ready to go.wheresgrant wrote:Just wondering if there is a good tutorial on how to build and organize multi's for performance. I use a master keyboard (Kurzweil PC3x) and several other smaller MIDI controllers, and generally send a single multi select program change to the Receptor to choose a multi, and then play different sounds on different channels. I don't generally send program changes mid-song to change the patches running on the plugins.
If you get to the point where a song needs more plugins running than the CPU can handle, or if you need different plugins on the same MIDI channel for different parts of the song, you'll need to look into snapshot multis.
Good question! Certainly you can't treat them as separate MIDI ports internally if it is possible, as there's no way to choose a MIDI in port when setting up a plugin. But perhaps the Receptor merges incoming MIDI data? FWIW I use an external 3-way MIDI merge unit and just use the standard 5 pin MIDI socket on the Receptor.wheresgrant wrote:Secondly... is it possible to control the Receptor with two separate MIDI In sources? Plus one on the external midi merger for multiple keyboards controlling Receptor.
Check Plugorama for available soft synths (be sure they work with Receptor 1 before purchase).
