Yes, that's why I always struggle with Absynths GUI.ariston wrote: Although I can't really imagine a UI as complex as Zebra's with lots of value indicators - that would probably look pretty horrible, like looking at the printout of the results of a factor analysis.
Thoughts about Zebra2 GUI...

That's one of those things that works well for a power user like yourself, but makes it less intuitive for people new to the software. We're raised with toys that pretty much feature "ui elements" that make noises in some way. Why take all that cultural language and toss it? I think the knobs are an improvement to the more ambiguous semicircles that are there now.justin3am wrote:...can we just do away with knobs all together and replace them with values that you can click and adjust depending on the decimal place you clicked on?

Yeah, I should have put a big IMO on that post because I know that most don't feel the same way I do. I'm the type who tends to use Ableton Live's generic GUI at the bottom of the screen as opposed to actually opening the plug-in. The things I build in Max or Reaktor usually don't get a UI.zerocrossing wrote:That's one of those things that works well for a power user like yourself, but makes it less intuitive for people new to the software. The focus on knobs has always been my biggest gripe about Zebra (though I don't voice it much because I'm not really a GUI guy). I'd like much more feedback about what is going on in a patch than is currently available. While there are subtle details (as bmrzycki mentioned) that make certain things clearer, like the direct assignment knobs, I think that the U-He team is capable of better and I encourage that.
I wish I could come up with a sketch of what I have in mind but my ability to sketch what is in my mind is severely lacking.

+1.... I too love it.Xenos wrote:Howard, I absolutely love, love, love that design! From a practical standpoint, I find it very easy on the eyes. Being able to see what you are doing and find things quickly is of primary concern, IMHO.

Thanks for the link.Howard wrote:See OP - I added a filesharing link.mcnoone wrote:I wish I could see the gui images, but unfortunately imageshack is blocked here.
Just wish there was less gray parts...more colored parts.

Interesting look. I'm one of those that never really bonded with the Ace style knobs, but it's cool to see a Gui like this for Zebra. It has a nice clean look to it. A little dark for my tastes, but nice and clean. I like the bottom panel layout too as someone else mentioned. One suggestion would be to color the Mute buttons red when muted instead of the gold color so they stand out as inhibitors rather than activators.
Nice work.
Nice work.

Do want! It is a design masterpiece!
Easy and clear!
I like every single part, i would change a bit just the color palette but this is not a big issue...

I think it looks very nice. Actually, I'm a little surprised at how much I like
the ACE-style knobs over the "classic" Zebra ones. (I have Zebra, but not ACE.)
I also agree that the GUI could be a little lighter in tone. Other than that, go for it!
But then my concern is that if this new GUI is in the works, it represents a great
enough shift to require new screenshots for the excellent manual that Howard is
writing (and also, I would think, a bit of a rewrite).
I hope I'm not coming off as a curmudgeon, but I do think it would be a bad idea
to release a spiffy new manual and shortly afterwards make a major change to the GUI.
But then again, the manual is still in beta, isn't it (:)), so perhaps I worrying over nothing.
Cheers,
Trahast

Really great stuff Howard. A LOT better than the current GUI - can't wait for it to be released!
