I wouldn't worry too much about the keys. For me, the Mackie staff have always been very responsive in providing keys for the versions I've purchased.

And yes, that $20 deal is indeed very tempting, for the GPO and drum-stuff alone. It'd be nice to have a boxed edition. I've never held one!

I paid for my T1 download way back when and just upgraded/downloaded ever since.

(sigh)

Worth noting that on Mac, with 10.6 at least, the Drumcore TK installer fails completely. That's a lotta good drum stuff that's useless. I'm trying a workaround of downloading the current free Drumcore and getting it to recognize all the full install loops etc. Haven't completed that effort yet so don't know if that'll work. Still @ $19 totally, completely worth it.

i'm very close to rating this $19.99 ultimate bundle offer as the best software deal ever, (with the possible exception of reaper) although reaper is magnificent - it certanly lacks in the vi department - traction 3 ultimate bundle doesn't - damn - slept great last night

thinking that

ha ha, could reaper and tracktion together be considered an $80buck solution to a $10,000 problem

if so, you got to like that

i used to Love Tracktion so much!!

i would post here every day

now i only use Tracktion to render stems from old projects,

but this Software is Still worth $20 (Less than a large Pizza

)

it really is a shame Mackie killed it! (not that this is official!)

T4 could have been amazing!

But on a side note due to Tracktions demise i have configured Reaper to be better than any host i have ever used!

Seriously, the interface just feels like walking through sludge wearing nothing but jeans and a t-shirt after using t.

Custom Macro Commands (first one's i made where "Abort" & "Abort & Restart")

re organized all the menus so i had the tools i needed close to hand when i'm working, & re programmed most of the qwerty short cuts (Key Mappings)

& of course customized theme! (default Reaper is Fugly to look @ & Use!!)

when Reaper4 comes out be sure to have a play

I've tried reaper4 (you don't have to wait, they have the beta freely available on the forum), it's much the same but the skin is nice.
My main bugbear is effects work. Putting so many barriers between me and effects is just not a workable studio scenario for me.
You can get it close....ish..........ish.................ish by using VST folders and expanding the mixer bar upwards to see the effects for each track, but it's so limited by comparison.
Lacking tracktion's ability to re-order effects by dragging, lacking the ability to up to 20 effects at once without having to resize the mixer bar to take up edit view space, and a bunch of other niceties, just puts me off it.

Interestingly, in that screenshot they've put the mixer-window effects beside the volume control - which is good. That's the way they should be going. But it wasn't there in the last reaper4 test build I tried, so it must be something they're working on.

If they get around to making the effects properly draggable/copyable (ie. treating them as objects rather than "options in slots" - which is the current fugly way they're doing it), and streamline the VST folders right-click so you don't have to mouse-navigate through two menus JUST to select a f**king VST, MAYBE they'll get close to tracktion usability - on that level at least. But it's a long way off. The cockos crew are overly focused on technological significance, and at the expense of their usability focus...

you can drag to copy FX in the mixer since i started using reaper (3.16) (Ctrl drag to copy to the same track)

& you can drag to reorder them,

the wide layout on the "extended" mixer is part of the new skinning engine

but i admit you cant beat Tracktion for linear signal flow & speed

but with the docking in Reaper 4 you can dock the mixer to the left or right of the main window acting like a inspector for selected tracks with space for more than 20 FX

Composed/wrote/recorded 14 songs in February using T3 Ultimate which I got for $19.99

Thanks for posting those screenshots Subz... really like the first one (not the second so much) but they look like two different programmes...!

The first one seems to have standard editing tools in it - pencil, scissors, etc... is this something new? I thought Reaper went for "tooless editing" or has that changed?

Reaper has had tools for years, ever since i came up with a way for them to stay tool less and have tools, i explained it to schwa and he coded it that night

Usability has always been of little concern in Reaper and if you are expecting that to change with V4, you are sh*t out of luck.
Besides the usual Reaper crapiness it is the best host around for the money end of story.

I finally upgraded my T1 to T3 with the 20 buck deal and have already upgraded my RMV and Alpha to full versions, will update the rest next, I will only really use T for mastering now because honestly the Acuma stuff is amazing kit (Wish it could be upgraded)

Don't forget Podium. It's a really nice DAW too, which i use now as my main app.
Really userfriendly imho and it has a single screen approach, much like T.

Podium is archaic when it come to editing audio
Quite cool for MIDI though
Way too expensive for what it is and how many updates there are, I mean you have to pay once a year still right ?

Even though i like its interface it is not a host i can suggest to anybody, way better options around for the same or less money
