For composing, it is not anywhere near BeatMaker 2, but for $5 it is a blast to play with. Just great fun.....
I mean really, if you have an iPad, and are on KVR, you have to get this. Too cool, for what it is....

We have confirmed that iRig and iRig Mic are both working perfectly in GarageBand.

its an excellent though artificially limited product. We'll probably see logic express on there sooner than later. I hope Steinberg and Cakewalk don't miss this boat.

I love the Smart Instruments in GarageBand but it is a shame that I can't get what I create with them into my DAW workstation. There is no MIDI export even if I transfer to Garageband on the Mac. The Core MIDI support is input only. I can use an external keyboard but there is no MIDI output when playing the GarageBand instruments. If MIDI output worked at least I could record into my DAW workstation to take advantage of the Smart Instruments playability. With Music Studio for iOS playing the onscreen keyboard outputs MIDI. I am using the the iPad camera kit USB adapter and the M-Audio UNO USB-MIDI.

I wouldn't say the iRig works perfectly with it. With high gain amp models, you have to really dial up the noise gate, otherwise the noise is unbearable.Brian @ IK Multimedia wrote:We have confirmed that iRig and iRig Mic are both working perfectly in GarageBand.

I would like MIDI Out too, because I found GarageBand keyboard to be very expressive and unique. It is the first release, hope it gets better as time goes by.dvbssman wrote:I love the Smart Instruments in GarageBand but it is a shame that I can't get what I create with them into my DAW workstation. Regarding MIDI export, since Logic can import GarageBand tunes, it is no issue here. Maybe if Apple decides to sell Logic Express for 99 EUR at the Mac App Store we would be talking about something

This is definitely fun to play with, and they've done some very clever things with the "smart" instruments, but after 30 minutes of playing with this I went back to my only slightly larger Macbook and all the many, many things I can only do there. I guess I'm still not persuaded that tablets are musically useful. I've tried all the big apps now all of them feel really slow and awkward compared to Ableton.

Turning out to be an excellent composition tool. If they doubled the tracks and added some generic plugins you might actually be able to finish a lite project. I'm sure they don't want that to happen for $5.

Try LogMeIn/Ignition. It gives you full control of your home or office computer from your ipad. Its supposed to be amazing.aMUSEd wrote:The only thing that might hold me back from getting an iPad is there still doesn't seem to be an app that loads and plays MS Office Powerpoint slides properly which is something I really need a tablet to do.

Looks like Logic 9.1.3 can open iPad Garageband projects already, according to this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... 4&tstart=0
I don't have logic myself, anyone else tried?

Garageband for Ipad is an amazing peice of software. It is revolutionary in so many ways. I actually sequence with Logic Pro, but I have never seen software with this many innovations before. It is not yet ready for full on pro use, but you can definitely make pro music with it.
Some of the sounds on here put many plugins to shame.

Apple have added an update to the desktop version of Garageband that lets you import your iPad creations. It now makes it officially awesome.
