People have always said this for the iphone. Any feature it doesn't have isn't needed. Sorry, but that's a bit too easy, isn't it? When the iphone didn't have 32GB storage, gyroscope, GPS, video recording, high resolution display, et cetera, but the android phones did, well of course none of it matters - until the iphone FINALLY gets them, in which case they become "rudimentary features."

But I guarantee that when the iphone gets a customizable desktop environment with widgets, a good gesture keyboard, an AMOLED screen, theming, a taskbar, and actual multitasking, 4G (et all), you'll use these things guilt-free and be glad that you are, because they are very cool features that become indispensable to the smart phone user experience.

Get with the program Chase. If Android phones have hardware that's better than the iPhone, then it's "specs don't matter, it's all about the user experience".

If the iPhone has better hardware features than the Android phones then "the higher specs make the user experience better".

I don't recall focusing on specs this much. If given a choice between the Droid and a 3Gs at the time I got the Droid, I would have gotten the 3Gs, even though the Droid had a better camera, processor, screen, etc. because that's my personal preference.

I just bought the iPhone 4 (that's right, with the 5 likely coming out in a few months) when I could have gotten a Droid X with a bigger screen, an Atrix with a dual processor, etc.

I wanted an iPhone because I prefer it, simple as that. If that doesn't speak to my focus (or lack there of) on hardware specs, I don't know what does. I'm not saying Android phones don't have great hardware available. It's just that it's not that much of an issue for me.

A lot of it has to do with system integration (yes, I am a Mac user primarily, though I use Linux heavily too), but it's also got to do with the applications available. There are a lot of apps that aren't available for Android, and the apps that are crossplatform generally suck on Android. That's not Android's fault, but it's an issue for the end user never the less.

It seems like there's a lot of false information and BS going around though. Someone may base his decision of what phone he/she's going to get on this thread (if so, I pity him/her ) and IMHO saying that Android is "unstable" is BS of the highest order. Maybe it only happens to other phones and not mine - maybe I'm the luckiest guy in the world, I don't know.

I'm glad you're enjoying your phone and (even more importantly) I'm glad I'm enjoying mine. Different phones for different needs I guess. I would go batshit if I had gotten an iPhone and tried to use it as eg. a flash drive only to discover that I have to go throung iTunes for the simplest function. Other people don't seem to mind. Good for them!

meh, i think the op made a good point after all, i must admit i don't own either one, but i thought long and hard about getting an iphone because of the apps it has.

i feel like, at this point, i'm more attracted to having a phone with the filtatron or whatever in my pocket than another phone with better specs.

If you want audio apps in your phone DO NOT GET AN ANDROID PHONE. DO NOT! Get an iPhone instead.

I understand your concern, but I wouldn't consider someone's viewpoint "false information". I think I've made it pretty clear what I've based my viewpoint on, and that's my original Droid, a Galaxy S, and a considerable number of Android handsets for my employer. Based upon my experiences and those of the people I support, I've come to these conclusions. None of us can scientifically say Android is perfectly stable or Android is unstable. All of it is anecdotal.

You preferring Android is fine; it's not a "wrong" choice.

As for the features being unimportant, I'm not remotely saying "they're unimportant to me, therefore they're completely unimportant to everyone". That's an arrogant notion to say the least. I'm just saying that they were never an issue for me, and continue to not be an issue. The flash drive thing? Again, irrelevant to me, since I've got a tiny 32GB flash drive in my pocket at all times anyway. I don't need to plug my phone in to use as a flash drive. But as always, YMMV.

I also find it pretty funny that you would think that Android is missing rudimentary functions. Which one are those exactly? Again, even on 2.1, Android is so far ahead in basic functionality It's not even funny.

If you buy a crap-app without testing, it's more or less your own fault. If the description of the dev is however really misleading, you can sue him.

Android is not crap specifically due to the apps, however a platform without great apps isn't a great platform. That being said, there are more and more great Android apps coming out all the time.

First of all, it's "phishing", not "fishing". Second, getting a phishing e-mail has ZERO to do with the platform, and everything to do with the e-mail address being sold to unscrupulous people. I could send you a phishing e-mail on a hardened Linux system, and if you opened it and filled it out, well, you're still an idiot. The machine does NOT protect against stupidity.

Actually it's the choice between form factor (slide, flip, slate, etc), hardware options such as a tactile keyboard versus none or an LCD vs. AMOLED, or the choice of any carrier you want, or how much storage you want, it goes on...
