Wait, can't do it on android, but can do it on my ipod touch.
Incorrect. There is a great netflix app for iOS that isn't on android, but we can stream it from the website. Or any other flash site... ;)
NER wrote:As for android providing "choices", ridiculous. They are all the same, but with their own unique flaws.
Actually it's the choice between form factor (slide, flip, slate, etc), hardware options such as a tactile keyboard versus none or an LCD vs. AMOLED, or the choice of any carrier you want, or how much storage you want, it goes on...
Netflix isn't Flash, it's Silverlight. So I'm pretty sure it won't work on the Android phones.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netflix#Streaming

So unless you root the phone and figure out how to compile Moonlight for Android, you won't be watching Netflix on Android any time soon.

As for the choice thing; sure you've got a lot of hardware choices with Android, that's good for you.

The iPhone happens to fit my needs for a smart phone, as well as offering Netflix, Ampkit, Capo, TabToolKit, GuitarToolKit, Multitrack DAW, Groovemaker, and other non-music apps that either suck on Android (Evernote, Citrix) or aren't available at all.

So as always, buy the phone that suits your needs. If it's Android, good for you.

It was a mail requesting to enter the Apple ID login-data on a site to verify something. The URL of this site looked very similar to the original one (something like id-apple.com .. can't remember exactly).
The mail looked legit, the link looked legit on the first look, and the site displayed, when you clicked it, looked legit as well.

The thing is, his eMail-address was new and never used for anything apple-related other than the appstore on the iPad.
Probably one of those games on the iPad (I guess this stupid plasma-thingy) took the data and sent it to the phishers-site, which then sent the eMail.

Applications don't have access to e-mail data. He would have had to purposely give them their address. Applications are sandboxed from the mail account data. Sorry, but he didn't get "malware" from the App Store. This was a run-of-the-mill phishing e-mail.

The eMail address was only given to the appstore. I guess if you download a program from this store, the developer gets your data. This is the only way I can think of.
This eMail-address was new. And it was never used for anything else apple-related than the store.

Anyways .. this isn't really on topic.
All I'm saying is, that Android doesn't suck just because you found a bad app for it.
There's more than enough useless crap for every plattform .. be it windows, OSX, iOS, Android or whatever.

So now the goalposts are moved to quality of apps? Come on, everyone knows that Android is behind on that but the situation is infinitely better now than it was six months ago. I bet that six months from now the Android Market will be the equal of the App Store (capitalization required so I won't get sued).

If you just want to toy around with internet videos, facebook and flashy music gadgets then it might be OK to be restricted by a limited system. But some people really need more from a phone that calls itself smart.

Not being able to move files around without restrictions is a absolute no go for me. Spontaneously transfer files from or to the company while sitting next to the customer (by using the net, mail and the SD-card) without having to move around additional hardware or installing malware saves so much time in practice.

Sometimes I'm even using the phone to transfer files (eg Wifi drivers) to new computers that don't have network connections yet. With Android it's easy enough - just copy the needed files from an arbitrary windows share over Wifi to the SD card and then over USB to the target computer. No running around and no extra hardware required.

Of course as an iPhone user I could do jobs like this manually by running around and constantly plugging and syncing USB sticks on a lot of different computers all the time. Or I could carry around a full featured notebook and a lot of extra hardware. But having to do it just because a guy thinks that it is more important that I don't install p0rn on my phone than allowing me to use the capacities of my device to it's fullest is ridiculous.

One reason I like Android is that its supported by multiple manufacturers, same as PC. I can go to any of them and choose so Im not locked in. I can also drag n drop mp3s/divx without going through a proprietry system such as iplayer.

Beta = not released yet. Not sure if you knew that. Do you have the beta? How does it run?

As an IT guy, I solved this extraordinary problem with a $10 USB key. The rest of the apps I use for IT (Citrix, iSSH, iNet, Pocketcloud, Wifitrak) all work great. Your example is a non-issue.

I'm not saying you can't do the same thing with a Droid, though when I had mine I still just used a USB key. Easier and faster than mounting the dumb phone all the time.

 you said "any time soon." A Beta seems pretty soon.

I guess I'll have to settle with liveleak, HULU, ebaumsworld, newgrounds, digitaleclipse, and the rest of the flash-half of the internet until then for when it comes to pretending to enjoy watching videos on a phone. :( How stupid I was to switch; If only I could downgrade my screen, camera, storage, and entire operating system to get that darned netflix app!

"Anytime soon", meaning has an actual release date. Does it?

And by all means, use Android. As I've said, if you're happy with it, use it. I don't give a shit. The argument of Flash continues to be irrelevant to ME because I block it on my laptops anyway, much less wanting it on a device, where it'll drain the battery and provide even more vectors of attack for security vulnerabilities.

It ran like utter piss on my Droid anyway, so I turned it off. But if you like it, yay for you!! Congrats. By the way, which camera is actually better than the iPhone's? I mean actual quality, not megapixel bragging rights. Hint: don't say Droid X, because it looks like shit. And which one had a "better" screen? Note, I said "better", not bigger.

Yup, sounds like iPhone 4 is a big downgrade.

And how well is AmpKit/Amplitube/Capo/Multitrack DAW/TabToolKit/GuitarToolKit/Cisco Mobile/RageHD/Airview running on Android now? Those apps I need too.

I bought the phone that has the features I need, you bought what you needed. So how about letting it go? Or, we can continue to go round and round about something that really doesn't matter, and something in which we won't change each other's opinions.

Not really. I just find it amusing how awesome Android is, yet in reality there's no perfect platform when I (and many others) can't do what we want to do on Android. Oh wait, I forgot; it's okay to bitch about how iOS doesn't do something, so therefore the "choice" of Android is so amazing. But when Android doesn't do something for me (and many others), that's not a valid point.

Sounds like Windows vs. Mac all over again.
