The Horror :-o
It doesn't work that way. You have one IK User Account. All of your IK products are registered to it. The difference between AmpliTube CS FREE and AmpliTube 3.5 is the serial number. AmpliTube 3 starts with 'ATX30'. AmpliTube CS FREE starts with 'ACS30'. The installer is the same for both, and authorizing the AmpliTube CS FREE serial number is redundant if you have AmpliTube 3.

Custom Shop purchases are tied to your IK User Account, not to a particular serial number. So once you buy the Soldano, you can unlock it with either your AmpliTube 3.5 or AmpliTube CS FREE, provided they are both registered to the same IK User Account that the SLO-100 was purchased through. The reality of it is that Custom Shop FREE gives registered AmpliTube 3 users 5 additional authorizations for free, and is for all intents and purposes functionally the same thing.
Hi Brian,

Now I'm confused. I had just read your own caution - here it is again:

Brian @ IK Multimedia wrote:
...You can continue using AmpliTube 3.5 just as you used AmpliTube 3.02. Make sure you are using your full AmpliTube 3 registration, not the CS FREE registration. CS FREE unlocks gear through the Custom Shop online. AmpliTube 3.5 has integrated Custom Shop access, but it is not essential to the software...
When you said "make sure you are using the (full version) registration and not the CS FREE registration" - you seemed to be indicating a potential screwup of the kind I speculated on. What adverse consequence did you have in mind when making this warning?

brilliant idea IK! You got me on board!

We bring all existing users up to speed with AmpliTube 3.5 for free, but we do still ask that you buy the new models. You can buy just a new amp or stomp if you like. It is no longer a major financial commitment to get into AmpliTube.

The new models are from our co-branding partners at Fender, Orange, Soldano and T•Rex. Plus the Nu-Tron III, which is a model of a vintage Mu-Tron III.
Very, very important point you missed about the 3.5 update from AT2:
Draggable FX. That was the ONLY thing I found "wrong" with AM, AF and AXgear.
I don't need other models of anything, I'm set with AM and AF, however, being able to drag FX to a different point in the chain... heaven!
... now, if I can just get my AF and AM to work in A3.5Free :D

That you could not unlock AmpliTube 3, AmpliTube Fender or Ampeg SVX gear offline. Custom Shop FREE only unlocks gear through the Restore My Gear tab, which requires an internet connection. But both will unlock your registered gear.

:!: CORRECTION: AmpliTube Custom Shop FREE will also detect your installed Powered By AmpliTube software and unlock this gear without need for restoring online in the Custom Shop!

Which do I download in my "Downloads"? All I see is stealth pedal stuff...

Nothing for Amplitube 3 free :(

Post

vaisnava, do you not see AmpliTube 3 FREE 3.5.1 14-04-2011 Initial Release, or are you clicking the [Available] button at the end of that?

At this point, I'm not worried. I've got all my AT2 stuff in X-Gear, just like I had before, and it works fine, and so does AT3.5 (and, for that matter, so does AT2). Yeah, it would be a little more convenient to have all those choices in AT3.5, but it's hardly a deal-breaker, and it all sounds superb. So I'm going to make some music. ;)

I guess I'm in the minority here. I've been a big proponent of Amplitube products. I've often talked on the Hamerfan club site about amplitube and even as recent as April 12th a thread was started by another user asking me about amplitube and I was posting glowingly about the sims and the potential of the new update. I've seen responses to many posts here but none to mine.
This upgrade seems to benefit the new users more than the established user in my opinion.

Jam points did the same thing. I didn't complain about it when it came out because who should complain about something free, but since I had been a customer for so long, some of my products were already past the two year window. So for , AmpliTube Metal - Crossgrade from any IK product 30-07-2008 $ 12, Ampeg SVX - Crossgrade from any IK product 03-04-2008 $ 14, StealthPlug - USB Audio Interface Cable for Guitar &... 15-12-2006 $ 11, AmpliTube 2 06-09-2006 $ 32, I as a long standing user gets nothing. But a new customer gets full benefit.
and of course since I had almost everything you make and had no purchases to consider at your store, my last few jam points expired.

So, no problem, this is Ik's new business model.

I'm just not sure this list below will be getting any longer.

I'm in the same boat. I have nearly every piece of software IKM makes. Customers like us have helped to create IKM's success and our reward is to help new folks get a better deal up front while we see no upgrade or crossgrade options. They will use all manner of excuses why this is so but we are the losers here. Lesson learned...

My first thought, Was that the prices was to high in the custum shop
I mean 15 credits for a distortion pedal - T Rex Mudhoney.
But I tryed It out, and the T Rex replica to - And I just had to buy them
They are sooooooooo gooooood - and I have to say: they are plenty worth the price

I can live with first-release bugs and changing the delivery mechanism to an online "custom shop" for new models. It's a little painful to transition into but I can tolerate it. As I said, the models look and sound GREAT so, no issue there...

Where IKM loses me is with the lack of any upgrade or crossgrade option (to Custom Shop models) for existing customers. That is standard for the software industry and not offering it is a snub to those who have made large investments in IKM over the long-term. Also, they show up here to announce products and when we offer constructive criticism or report bugs, they insist we go fill out their tedious online support form. That's two strikes for me IKM!

What does ANY of that have to do with upgrades to Custom Shop add-ons? Did I miss something? Are there discounts to ANY of the new models for existing AmpliTube owners?

Only SVX and AmpliTube 3 shows up on my list; all others (that I own) are absent. Do I need to run both AmpliTube 3.5 FREE AND AmpliTube 3.5 (side-by-side) to see and use what I already own?
