gui design question

i am a total noob to this program. looks amazing though!

one question is how to do the custom gui design. the manual says there is a check box to enter "custom gui" mode, but i don't see such a box anywhere. i am in the root circuit (i think) and have the settings window open and there are some check boxes for "tempo and beat" and "sidechain" but nothing for gui.
