Hi,
http://www.boosey.com/imagesw/print/Mus ... 81_mus.jpg
This is Prokofieff's Visions Fugitives, the first piece.
Take a look at the 3rd measure of the 3rd line(?).
On the 3rd note, there is a dot above it.
A friend of mine who has a different edition has the same dot, but also no written explanation in the book.
What do you think that could be?!

It's clearly a typo. That dot shouldn't be there. It's an augmentation dot out-of-place. Notice, also, that the last chord of them all in the last measure has an extra line on top of the top note that shouldn't be there.
Those are two engraver's mistakes.

I'm with the typo-people on this one. I can't see any reason for a dot, and moreover, there are editions without it, e.g. http://imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/b ... _Op_22.pdf

it's the profokiev dot. profokiev wrote it that way in 1915(probably dropped some ink or something) and the guys who publish it honor him that way sometimes. it's odd. it has caused a lot of discussions but was actually realized on the original paperwork itself.

No, only the first is a typo. The 'line' is a crotchet rest and it follows from the D natural minim at the start of the last bar of the fourth line.Musicologo wrote: Notice, also, that the last chord of them all in the last measure has an extra line on top of the top note that shouldn't be there.

Though it does look a little awkwardly placed, it is true.

Again, I'm referring the line on TOP of the B6, an horizontal one, and not needed, not the rest that belongs to the measure "above". That line in the place of an eventual C7 shouldn't be there. Only in case someone actually wrote a C7 or a D7.

It cannot belong to the first quarter note in the top line, because the top line has 3 quarter notes in that measure. Compare to the following measure where the top line goes dotted quarter, eighth, quarter. Unfortunately sometimes sheet music has mistakes.
